Rep. Peter King Says Threat of Domestic Islamic Terrorism Justifies Upcoming Hearing

Rep. Peter King of New York defended on Sunday a congressional hearing he will hold this week on the threat of homegrown Islamic terrorism that focuses on Muslim-Americans, calling it an issue "which is not being talked about publicly" and needs to be. "People in this country are being self-radicalized, whether it's Major Hasan or whether it's Shahzad or whether it was Zazi in New York," King said on CNN's "State of the Union." "These were all people who were identifying, in one way or another, with al-Qaeda or al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. So it's an international movement with elements ...

Opinion: Why American Airport Security Is So Horrendous

(Dec. 3) -- Security checks at American airports have become America's most controversial topic. Yet most people assume the current system is doing a good job fighting terrorism but is merely too intrusive. In fact, this approach is also ineffective and even counterproductive. Terrorism on American internal flights is a low-frequency threat. It is hard to mount a sophisticated attack from within the United States in the post-Sept. 11 period. The number of potential suicide terrorists on planes is limited as is the number of good bomb-makers. Four Views on Airport Security Why It's So ...

Times Square Bomber Gets Life, But Defiantly Spars With Judge

A Pakistani-American who tried and failed to set off a bomb in the heart of Times Square last May was sentenced to life in prison in New York Tuesday, but he remained defiant, threatening to "keep terrorizing you." U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called 31-year-old Faisal Shahzad a "remorseless terrorist who betrayed his adopted country." U.S. District Court Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum said to his face "I hope you spend some of the time in prison thinking about whether the Koran wants you to kill lots of people," the Associated Press reported. Shahzad, who was born in Pakistan but became a ...

FBI Video Shows Destruction Shahzad Could Have Caused [VIDEO]

(Oct. 5) -- Faisal Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison today for attempting to blow up a car bomb in Times Square in May. Fortunately, the bomb he made out of propane tanks, gasoline and gunpowder failed to detonate, and a New York City bomb squad dismantled it before anyone was hurt. But if all had gone according to plan, he could have killed thousands of people, according to the FBI. In June, the FBI recreated the bomb Shahzad had built and detonated it in Pennsylvania. They drew their conclusions about the would-be attack from the results, and prosecutors played the video of the ...

Opinion: Muslim Criticism Does Not Equal Bigotry

(Sept. 15) -- Does a negative opinion of Islam amount to conclusive evidence of bigotry? Those who warn of a raging frenzy of American "Islamophobia" base their case on the assumption that anything less than enthusiastic approval of The Religion of Peace automatically qualifies as hatemongering and ignorance. On ABC News, Christiane Amanpour pointed to recent survey figures on public uneasiness with Islam to prove that Muslim Americans faced an unprecedented tsunami of hostility and discrimination. OTHER VIEWS Frustration and mistrust are present on both sides of the debate says Jeffrey K. ...

The U.S. had officially charged Shahzad with said counts on Friday. Shahzad then ...
