Democrat Tom Barrett has been mayor of Milwaukee since 2004. He was a member of Congress for five terms, from 1993-2003, and served in the state Senate from 1989-93 and state Assembly from 1984-89. He ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2002. Barrett was an early supporter of Barack Obama for president and Obama has made campaign appearances for Barrett.
