Democrat Tom Perriello is an attorney who has worked to promote human rights and resolve conflicts in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Darfur, Kosovo and Afghanistan. He has founded several faith-based social justice groups. The first-time candidate came from behind to upset longtime Republican incumbent Virgil Goode two years ago, winning by the smallest margin in any House race that year by 727 votes.
