Vanity Fair Versus Sarah Palin, Round Three: A Blow-By-Blow

Vanity Fair Versus Sarah Palin, Round Three: A Blow-By-Blow

(Sept. 1) -- Does Vanity Fair have it in for Sarah Palin? In its October issue, the magazine -- which is generating a reputation as a chief Palin critic -- features "Sarah Palin the Sound and the Fury," an extensive profile by Michael Joseph Gross full of unflattering anecdotes about the former Alaska governor. A few examples: One friend of the Palins' remembers an argument between Sarah and Todd: "They took all the canned goods out of the pantry, then proceeded to throw them at each other. By the time they got done, the stainless-steel fridge looked like it had got shot up with a ...

Todd Palin Slapped With Cosmetic Contempt Citation

Ugh, for how long do we now need to give a carp about Alaska politics? The Alaska State Senate found Todd Palin, along with six others, guilty of "contempt of Senate" yesterday. Wait, that's a crime? If they start enforcing that, we're all in trouble. Here's the beauty part, though:(from ADN.com)JUNEAU -- The Alaska Senate voted Friday to find Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, and nine Palin aides in contempt for failing to show up when ordered by subpoena to testify in the Legislature's "Troopergate" investigation of the governor. But the Senate resolution also said there should be no ...

'TrooperGate' Report #2 Finds No Violation

Update: The new report has been issued, and its findings conflict with the first Troopergate report. The Alaska Personnel Board's independent investigator went on to directly dispute the findings of the State Legislature's "Branchflower Report":These findings differ from those of the Branchflower Report because Independent Counsel has concluded the wrong statute was used as a basis for the conclusions contained in the Branchflower Report, the Branchflower report misconstrued the available evidence and did not consider or obtain all of the material evidence that is required to properly reach ...

McCain-Palin Ticket Makes History!

McCain-Palin Ticket Makes History!

For all you history buffs, Washington Monthly has uncovered an interesting election year factoid: The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.McCain, of course, was admonished by Senate Ethics Committee "for exercising 'poor judgment' for intervening" with federal regulators on behalf of Charles Keating, as part of the infamous Keating Five scandal. And now McCain's running mate has also been found to have violated state ethics laws and abused the powers of her office, as part of the ...

Shocker! Democrats Find Palin Guilty

UPDATE Statement from the McCain campaign: "Today's report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan. The report also illustrates what we've known all along: this was a partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior. Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact. The Governor is ...

Shocker: Palin Exonerates Self in 'Troopergate'

This breaking news has just come in to the Political Machine bureau: Sarah Palin has looked into the charges against her (which are also being investigated by the Alaska Legislature) and has found that she did nothing wrong. You'd think that such a preposterous concept might be the stuff of satire, a great parody put forth by the likes of the Onion. Alas, this news comes to us from the Associated Press:On the eve of a report on a legislative panel's abuse-of-power investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report clearing her of any wrongdoing. Perhaps ...

Troopergate Friday!

The Alaska Supreme Court has withheld a lower court decision stating that the Alaska Legislature may issue its report on Sarah Palin's role in the "Troopergate" matter before the November election. John McCain's lawyers had fought for a stay in the release of the findings until after votes had been cast, but the court declined to comply. Via Bloomberg:The Legislative Council's independent investigator is scheduled to deliver his findings tomorrow morning in Anchorage. The council includes 10 Republicans and four Democrats. Before she was named McCain's Vice Presidential nominee, Palin had ...

Palin's Latest Troopergate Explanation

By  David Knowles - Politics Daily
Palin's Latest Troopergate Explanation

We've heard Sarah Palin give varying accounts as to why she fired Walt Monegan, each one meant to assure the public that his refusal to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law was not the real reason. Well, here's her latest explanation, via ABC News:Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administrations directives."The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. This project, ...

The Todd Says 'No Dice' to Trooper Probe

"First Dude" Todd Palin has decided not to cooperate with the Alaska Legislature's abuse of power investigation of his wife, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (who is ignoring calls to testify as well). From McClatchy: At a packed news conference at the Republican campaign office, O'Callaghan said Todd Palin submitted "objections" to the subpoena to Steve Branchflower, a retired local prosecutor whom the legislature hired to investigate whether the governor abused her powers in firing her former public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan. Monegan has said he believes he lost his job because he ...
