Obama, Michelle Criticize Media and Popular Culture in Graduation Speeches
By Lynn Sweet - Politics DailyPresident Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama zinged the media and popular culture in separate graduation speeches delivered over the weekend at historically black universities, where both paid tribute to U.S. civil rights icon Dorothy Height, who died April 20 at the age of 98. Obama told students at Hampton University in Virginia that not everything "on blogs, and on cable, on talk radio" would pass a truth meter and Mrs. Obama urged graduates to not be seduced by a culture that celebrates "fleeting reality show fame rather than the hard labors of lasting success."
