Weighing in at 327 pounds, the nearly 8½-foot-long prehistoric-looking creature has a girth of 47.95 inches, WAPT.com reports. "At first I didn't think he was that big. But as I was getting him into the boat, it was like, 'How big is this thing?'" said Kenny Williams of the fish he angled in Mississippi's Chotard Lake. ...
Many couples have taken the plunge, but few have done it so literally. A giant turtle and many colorful fish witness the waterbound nuptials of aquarists James Oliver and Kathryn O'Connor on Valentine's Day. The couple tied the knot in the Ocean Reef Display at the London Aquarium, while celebrant Daniel Winchester officiated over the ceremony on the other side of the glass. Neither the bride nor the groom wanted a formal wedding, nor apparently did they want human witnesses. ...

Today in The Works: Love takes on many forms, and in the NBA, these may shock and surprise. The Heart's Detritus Yesterday was Valentine's Day, and if you are awesome and live on the edge, you think this holiday is lame, and spent it watching the Spurs and Nets do something erotic to each other. We decided instead to call on our army of super-intelligent ants ... er, our sources ... to scour NBA front offices and locker rooms in search of discarded V-Day cards. We will leave it up to the reader to decide whether these were cast to the ground, or into the waste bucket, out of disgust or from ...
CANTON, Ohio -- An Ohio woman has said yes to a marriage proposal that arrived by bus. Laura Kalamets looked out a Canton restaurant window during a Valentine's Day lunch with her boyfriend and saw a public bus with an ad on its side that read: "Laura, Will You Marry Me?" It was signed "Mark" and included in smaller letters the words "and make me the happiest man in the world." Kalamets says she thought she'd have a heart attack. Mark Rose paid the transit agency $300 for the special ad and arranged for the bus to be parked in the right spot around noon on Monday. The Repository newspaper ...
PATTAYA, Thailand -- It was one long kiss for a couple - one record-breaking embrace for mankind. Groupon users are seeing red, and we're not talking about paper hearts. For Valentine's Day the online social saving site partnered with florist FTD to offer a deal that sounded great: get $40 worth of flowers for just $20, prepaid. The only problem was, when shoppers clicked through to the deal, they discovered that their Groupon prices were higher than the prices listed on FTD's regular site. Clearly, that's not how coupons (or Groupons) are supposed to work. FTD officials say the problem was caused by existing discounts on FTD.com and the fact that their site didn't allow offers to be ...
We couldn't help but notice a strange pattern in Google Trends this afternoon. National chain restaurants Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Outback Steakhouse are burning up the Internet search charts -- and they aren't giving away free meals or hosting Justin Bieber concerts. No, believe it or not, Americans are searching out these eateries in preparation for their Valentine's Day dinners. Along with Applebee's and the Cheesecake Factory, the aforementioned chains were searched by Internet users millions of times this afternoon. Salon's Francis Lam noticed the trend, too, and reports that it's ...
With Valentine's Day upon us, everybody is in full forced-romantic mode. Right now, people are frantically planning dinners, buying flowers and thinking about chocolates or other gifts, but nobody is asking the important question here: What about the zombies? Rob Sacchetto Zombie Portraits creator Rob Sacchetto has released zombie-themed greeting cards for Valentine's Day, Christmas and birthdays. Of course, there's also a "get well soon" card. It's a cold, cruel world for zombies: a violent death, an unwanted reanimation, a constant aching hunger while their ...
That little cherub on your Valentine's Day card represents thousands of years of history. Cupid's name has become synonymous with love, matchmaking and all the red and pink glitz on Feb. 14. But what do we really know about him? Surge Desk decided to learn more about Cupid's legend. 1. He came from Roman mythology Cupid was the Roman god of love, and ancient images of him were much like modern ones: He was depicted as a winged baby or young man with a bow and a quiver full of arrows. His name derives from "cupido," or desire. Greeks had their own Cupid-equivalent, known as Eros. 2. He had a ...
