Vermont elections

Vermont

The Green Mountain State could turn a deeper shade of blue this year as Republican Gov. Jim Douglas steps down after three terms. Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie hopes to hold on to the seat for the GOP, but Democrat Peter Shumlin appears to have the edge even though a recount was needed to decide that primary contest. Polls indicate Democratic Sen. Pat Leahy, seeking his seventh six-year term, is running far ahead of GOP challenger Len Britton. Vermont's sole House member, Democrat Peter Welch, is favored to win a third term. Obama won Vermont in 2008.
