Virginia

There are no contests for senator or governor this year, but Virginia has one of the nation's most closely watched House races on its ballot. Freshman Democrat Tom Perriello's 727-vote margin of victory over six-term GOP incumbent Virgil Goode in 2008 was the smallest of any House race in the country. Now he faces Republican Robert Hurt in the conservative 5th Congressional District. Hurt survived a primary battle against six opponents, including several tea party activists who charged that he isn't conservative enough.Virginia's other tossup House contest is in the 2nd District, where freshman Democrat Glenn Nye is fighting to keep the GOP from recapturing his seat. Obama won Virginia in 2008.
