Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! At last, our long national nightmare has come to an end. The Writer's Guild of America and the AMPTP have reached a settlement in the months-long walkout that has seen a rise in so-called "reality programming", excess facial hair, and the renaming of Jon Stewart's show to The "A" Daily Show. The WGA is expected to ratify the settlement today, with the scribes returning to work tomorrow. The Los Angeles Times has a rundown of the strike's winners and losers, but it seems that the agreement reached is one that could have been arrived at much quicker than it was, with the studios' negotiator ...
Several late-night talk shows returned to the airwaves last night, despite the months-long Writers Guild of America strike. Two of the chat shows had leading presidential candidates as guests, with one key difference. The Writer's Guild of America went on strike at midnight, the start of a shockwave that could spread to every corner of scripted film and television entertainment. Late night shows were the first to feel the bitter sting. AOL.com has this story from the Associated Press. While it's tempting to glibly crack jokes about not realizing there was someone writing this stuff, there are serious issues at stake.
