Wisconsin Elections

Wisconsin

The Senate election in Wisconsin, once seen as a sure win for Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold, could turn out to be a gauge of the electorate's animosity toward Washington insiders. Polls show Republican businessman Ron Johnson, a political newcomer, is running about even with Feingold, who is seeking his fourth term. If this seat is within reach, the GOP believes, so might be the party's goal of regaining control of the Senate.Republicans also have a chance to pick up two House seats and the governor's office. In the 8th Congressional District, Democrat Steve Kagen faces a competitive race to win a third term. And in the 7th District, Democrat David Obey is retiring after more than 40 years in Congress. The governor's seat is also open, as Democrat Jim Doyle retires after three terms. Obama won Wisconsin in 2008.
