Wyclef Jean Ruled Ineligible for Haitian Presidency

It looks like Wyclef Jean will be "Gone Til (After) November." On Friday, the Haitian electoral commission ruled the hip-hop star ineligible to run for the country's presidency, citing Jean's failure to meet several legal requirements -- including establishing residency in Haiti. The decision ends weeks of speculation about how Wyclef Jean as president might govern the embattled Caribbean country, still reeling from the effects of an earthquake in January that killed over 230,000 people. Jean was among 34 contenders for the office who filed their documents with the council earlier this ...

Roughly 8 out of every 10 Americans make a charitable donation that averages around $1,000 each year. In 2006, Americans contributed nearly $300 billion to charitable organizations. In the immediate aftermath of the disastrous earthquake that leveled his homeland, the Grammy Award-winning musician sprang into action: He charted a flight to Port-au-Prince, and flooded new and old media with requests for donations to his charity organization's quake aid fund. ...
