Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! If you're keeping score at home, the news that Al and Tipper Gore's daughter Karena Gore Schiff has filed for divorce from her husband, Andrew Schiff, brings the week's tally of that family's breakups to two. According to the CDC, the U.S. divorce rate continues to hover around the 50-percent mark. But even using that somewhat grim marker for comparison sake, the Gore family isn't doing all that well when it comes the "death do us part" part of the marital vow. Al and Tipper have four children. Here, then, is a breakdown of where the entire family stands vis-a-vis the bonds of matrimony. ...
I think it's best if I just come out and say this up front: I'm not really sad that Al and Tipper Gore split up. Yes, I know. I'm an outlier. "It's clearly the most important relationship I've ever had with anyone, bar none," he told me that day. "Even at a young age, she helped me understand things I never would have been able to understand otherwise. ...
As the shocking news of Al and Tipper Gore's separation circulates throughout the Web, commentators have responded with a variety of reactions -- with much of the genuine sympathy espoused so far, interestingly, coming from the right. A sampling: The Sincere and Heartfelt "All politics aside, this is simply sad news." -- Kathryn Jean Lopez, The Corner blog at the National Review Online "Sad news this morning...It's just another reminder of how little we really know about the people we 'know' based on media coverage of them." --Carol Platt Libeau, Townhall "Another sad sign today of ...
