Hundreds Seek to Adopt Puppy That Survived Euthanasia [VIDEO]

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of people from the United States and Canada want to adopt an Oklahoma dog that survived an attempt to euthanize it. The puppy was one of five stray dogs that Sulphur animal control officer Scott Prall put to sleep Friday -- or so he thought. Prall found one of the dogs alive Saturday in a trash bin set aside for dead animals and took it to veterinarian technician Amanda Kloski. "He was prancing around. He heard me drive up, and he looked up and saw me," Prall said Wednesday. He said he initially found the stray dog near the animal shelter Friday and tried to kill ...

The investigation began Tuesday morning, when police were called to 23-year-old Zack Sawyer's Chesapeake home. Sawyer told police that his mother was leaving for work that morning when she found the decapitated head of one of his pigs on their front ...

Death at SeaWorld: Where Is Tilikum, the Whale Who Killed His Trainer?

Death at SeaWorld: Where Is Tilikum, the Whale Who Killed His Trainer?

Dawn Brancheau, the SeaWorld performer who died last February, had not crossed my mind in months. But last night I saw some year-end stories on 2010 newsmakers and what they were doing with their 16th minute of fame. One was Isaiah Mustafa, who found fame and fortune on a Super Bowl commercial for Old Spice. Another was Antoine Dodson, who scared away a would-be rapist from his sister's bedroom and whose comments to a news crew led to the "Bed Intruder Song." Tilikum, the killer whale, became a household name on Feb. 24, after he turned on his trainer Dawn Brancheau. When I first saw her ...

DMX Back to Jail: A Not-So-Brief History of the Rapper's Legal Troubles

(Dec. 16) -- It's enough to make a man lose his mind. (Up in here, up in here.) Rapper DMX was sentenced to a year in prison today for violating the terms of his probation. The troubled hip-hop star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested last month for allegedly using cocaine and abusing prescription drugs, The Associated Press reported, but ABC News and Billboard reported that DMX simply admitted to drinking alcohol. These charges are the latest in a string of run-ins with the law for DMX, who has reportedly been arrested in every year since 1999. The highlights from the rapper's ...

925 Pigs on Pennsylvania Farm Found Dead From Neglect

(Nov. 16) -- It's a murder mystery of porcine proportions: 925 pigs were found dead on a Pennsylvania farm, apparently the victims of neglect. Police are investigating the remains to determine whether to bring criminal charges. "We are trying to determine exactly what happened," State Police Lt. Gregory Bacher told the Philadelphia Inquirer, saying that he has never seen such animal cruelty on this scale in his 26 years in law enforcement. Every year, a few stories surface about animals that farmers have left to die in the fields, as in the bizarre cases of more than 100 cow deaths in ...

UK 'Cat Bin Lady' Pleads Guilty to Animal Cruelty, Fined About $400

(Oct. 19) -- The "cat toss lady" or "cat bin lady" has 'fessed up to her crime in a court of law. Mary Bale became an international villain when video footage surfaced in August showing her dumping a 4-year-old tabby into a Dumpster (or bin, as Brits say). On Tuesday morning, she appeared at a Coventry court and pleaded guilty to a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. The fine was 250 British pounds ($393). "The cat was trapped in the bin for approximately 15 hours before her owners heard her cries. They posted video footage of the incident on Facebook and YouTube in an ...
