Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! With yesterday's surprise announcement that Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter would switch to the Democratic Party, it has generally been assumed he would automatically face former conservative Congressman Pat Toomey in the General Election. This may -- or may not -- be the case.Despite the Pennsylvania Democratic Machine's efforts to "clear the field," Rep. Joe Sestak is still considering whether or not to stay in the race -- and he has publicly noted that Specter's decision was based on expediency. It is interesting that the same folks (like Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell) who were behind ...
Senator John McCain -- who not long ago was the GOP standard bearer -- has drawn a challenge from Minuteman founder Chris Simcox. The Minutemen, of course, are an organization devoted to making sure illegal immigrants do not cross the border. As CNN reported, Simcox said:"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said in a statement. "He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn, opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes."Of ...

In fact, Toomey credits primary ...

Back in December, The Hill ran a column essentially arguing that Specter's 2007 vote was not a predictor of how he might vote this time:When Specter voted to move the bill forward in 2007, he did so knowing the legislation lacked the votes to advance in the Senate. President Bush had threatened to veto the bill even if the Senate had passed it. President-elect Barack ...
Club for Growth President Pat Toomey today released the following statement:As this disastrous recession worsens, I have become increasingly concerned about the future of our state and national economy. Unfortunately, the recent extraordinary response of the federal government – more corporate bailouts, unprecedented spending and debt, higher taxes – is likely to make things worse. I think we are on a dangerously wrong path. Pennsylvanians want a US Senator focused on real and sustainable job creation that gets our economy growing again. That is why I am considering becoming a ...
