Cops: Man Bought Printer From Walmart to Make Fake Money

For many shoppers, a trip to Walmart can be a way to save money. But for Douglas Brian Osborne, it was allegedly a way to make money -- using a printer to counterfeit $600 in funny money. Investigators in Gainesville, Fla., say Osborne purchased a printer from the Lake City megastore on March 10 and promptly attempted to pass off the bogus bucks before being busted later that day, The Gainesville Sun reports. The 30-year-old suspect allegedly tried to spend this fabricated fortune at Stubbies & Stein's restaurant. But an employee apparently refused to accept the questionable cash, so ...

Woman Accused of Hitting Cop With Sex Toy: 'I Simply Was Defending Myself'

An Illinois woman accused of assaulting a police officer with a sex toy says she only picked up a dildo to protect herself. Carolee Bildsten, 57, says her arrest in November for allegedly hitting a cop with a "clear, rigid feminine pleasure device" was anything but pleasurable. "I got a little bit afraid," she told TribLocal.com in a lengthy interview. "I got scared. And the only thing in my sock drawer besides my socks and my cash was a dildo." ...

Senate Breaks Impasse on Financial Regulation Bill

WASHINGTON (May 20) -- Barely breaking a logjam, the Senate voted today to end debate on a massive financial regulation bill, clearing the way for final passage of the most ambitious effort to write rules for Wall Street since the Great Depression. The vote was 60-40 to advance the legislation, which has become a top priority for President Barack Obama in the aftermath of his successful health care overhaul in March. The president heralded today's vote, saying Wall Street efforts to undermine the legislation had failed. "Our goal is not to punish the banks," he said, "but to protect the ...

Now We Know Why Bill Kept the Donor List Secret

via the IHT:A developer in New York state donated $100,000 to former President Bill Clinton's foundation in November 2004, around the same time that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton helped secure millions of dollars in federal assistance for the businessman's mall project. Hillary Clinton helped enact legislation allowing the developer, Robert Congel, to use tax-exempt bonds to help finance the construction of the Destiny USA entertainment and shopping complex, an expansion of the Carousel Center in Syracuse. She also helped secure a provision in a highway bill that set aside $5 million for ...

In Other Political News...

While the media swirls around the presidential campaigns, the actual elected government we presently possess is going about business as usual. Or, perhaps a bit unusual, as displayed by today's bi-partisan cooperation between Democrats and Republicans, Congress and President. Earlier today, the president signed into law a bill which prevents the mentally ill from purchasing guns. The law was inspired by the Virginia Tech massacre, and both parties supported the measure. According to the AP, "the law authorizes as much as $1.3 billion in grant money for states to improve their ability to track ...

On the Eve of the First Global Warming Vote

On the Eve of the First Global Warming Vote

The Baltimore sun reports that a Senate committee may vote tomorrow on the first global warming bill in the Senate. The bill's "cap and trade" regulation would seek to cut U.S. greenhouse-gas emissions by fining industries for emissions and rewarding "clean" businesses. Environmentalists are expected to begin a Senate lobbying frenzy first thing in the morning. Yet this approach has been attempted before. Europe's disastrous pollution credit trading systems spiked electricity bills while allowing power companies to reap massive government payouts with negligible reductions in pollution. Of ...

When Will Keith Olbermann Apologize?

According to an AP story on AOL.com, Michael Devlin, the kidnapper, rapist, torturer, and would-be murderer of young Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby, was sentenced today. He has accumulated a total of 20 consecutive life sentences, with an appearance in Federal Court coming up on Wednesday. With the sentencing came the revelation, by Devlin, that he at one point started to strangle Shawn Hornbeck, but the 11 year-old talked him out of it. Shawn Hornbeck is my new hero. So what does all this have to do with Keith Olbermann? The occasion of this revelation caused Olbermann, on his show Countdown, ...
