British Gitmo Inmates Win Huge Payouts From UK

LONDON (Nov. 16) -- A group of former Guantanamo Bay inmates who claim British spies helped torture them will receive millions of dollars in payouts from the U.K. government. The 10 men -- some of whom are British nationals, while others arrived in the U.K. as asylum seekers -- have filed a range of allegations against the British government, including that U.K. officials knew they were being illegally transferred to Guantanamo Bay but failed to prevent it. There are also allegations that British security and intelligence agents colluded in their torture and abuse while the men were held ...

Former British Spy Boss Slams US Torture Tactics

LONDON (March 10) -- The former head of Britain's domestic security service has attacked U.S. intelligence agencies for keeping their allies in the dark about the mistreatment of suspected terrorists. "The Americans were very keen that people like us did not discover what they were doing," Eliza Manningham-Buller said during a lecture on intelligence gathering at the Houses of Parliament. Despite Britain's being a key partner in the war on terror (a phrase she doesn't approve of), she said that it was only after her retirement in 2007 that she discovered alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh ...

UK Court Publishes Details of Alleged CIA Torture

LONDON (Feb. 10) – A London court on Wednesday ordered the British government to disclose confidential U.S. intelligence showing that a British resident and former Guantanamo Bay inmate suffered "cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment" while in American custody. U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband had previously refused to allow the publication of U.S. material dealing with the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, who was arrested in Pakistan in 2002. Divulging this information, warned Miliband, could jeopardize Britain's intelligence-sharing deal with the U.S. and damage future anti-terror ...

Military Families United has released a new web and TV ad, as well as a petition, regarding the release of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay by President Obama: Military Families United has been in the news recently. Former USS Commander Cole Commander and Senior Military Fellow for Military Families United, Commander Kirk Lippold was among guests recently invited to the White House to discuss the future of detainees at Gitmo, along with the families of victims of terror.
