Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!WASHINGTON -- Shortly after President Barack Obama declared himself an American-born citizen with papers to prove it, Baratunde Thurston declared himself a disgusted black man. "I find it hard to summarize in mere words the amount of pain and rage this incident has caused," Thurston said. "This" would be the nation's first black president standing in the White House, blue power suit and all, going on TV to debunk, in more detail than before, the persistent, he-ain't-really-an-American rumors fanned anew by Donald Trump, the developer and might-be presidential candidate. Many ...

PHOENIX - The Arizona Legislature gave final approval late Thursday night to a proposal that would require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they are U.S. citizens before their names can appear on the state's ballot. Arizona would become the first state to require such proof if Gov. Jan Brewer signs the measure into law. Republican Rep. Carl Seel of Phoenix, the author of the bill, said the bill wasn't about opposition to Obama. "This bill is about the integrity of our elections," Seel said. Thirteen other states have considered similar proposals this year. ...
Apparently, the birth certificate was just the beginning. Donald Trump, the real estate mogul and reality TV star recently turned birther, now says that liberal activist Bill Ayers wrote President Barack Obama's signature book, "Dreams of My Father." "'Dreams of My Father' was genius, and they give him full credit," Trump said of Obama in an interview Wednesday with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham. "But now it's coming out that Bill Ayers wrote it. And [Obama's] only there because of 'Dreams of My Father.'" Ayers, a co-founder of the radical Weather Underground movement that carried ...

Is he for real? Donald Trump, who appears at times to be flirting with the idea of a 2012 presidential run, is taking an enthusiastic spin around the block with the birther movement, demanding to see President Barack Obama's birth certificate and claiming that the president may have been born outside the United States. And no one seems to be quite sure why. The Donald's birther media tour began on ABC's "The View" last week, when the New York real estate tycoon turned reality TV star questioned Obama's citizenship. "Why doesn't he show his birth certificate?" Trump asked, echoing a fringe ...

Urging conservatives to focus on "real issues," Karl Rove said Republicans should speak out against those in the party who question whether President Obama is a citizen of the United States. The GOP strategist said whatever percentage of Republicans are so-called "birthers," it "ought to be less." He made the comments in an interview with Bill O'Reilly on Fox News, where Rove is a regular commentator. HONOLULU - A privacy law that shields birth certificates has prompted Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to abandon efforts to dispel claims that President Barack Obama was born outside Hawaii, his office says. State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual's birth documentation without the person's consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday. "There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document," said Dela Cruz. "Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to ...
(Oct. 18) -- The irony is palpable. On Dec. 8, President Barack Obama, a man who has sparked more common myths that perhaps any president since John F. Kennedy, will appear on the Discovery Channel program "MythBusters." While the subject of the program will deal with whether Greek scientist Archimedes could have possibly set fire to an approaching Roman army using only a mirror and a reflection of the sun's rays, the show might have drawn directly from the president's own bio to find other matters still in need of debunking.
