British Police Release Video of Attack on Royal Car

LONDON -- British police released Tuesday a video of a mob kicking and hitting a limo carrying Prince Charles and his wife during student protests last month, hoping to find witnesses and suspects in one of the worst royal security breaches in recent years. The closed-circuit security camera video shows several people attacking the vintage Rolls-Royce after the car was forced to slow down during the violent central London demonstrations. A young woman is shown hitting the Rolls-Royce twice, before picking up a trash can and throwing it at the back of one of the convoy cars, smashing its back ...

Facebook 'em, Danno: UK Cops Learning Social Media

LONDON (Nov. 6) -- Privacy campaigners often warn law-abiding citizens about the dangers of sharing too much personal information on social media sites. Lawbreakers might want to heed that caution too, because from the beginning of next year, the British police force is set to start teaching its trainee detectives how to fight crime with Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. The initiative is part of an 18-month training scheme that all junior officers must complete before attaining the rank of detective. Some critics may argue that it is nothing but a fashionable distraction, and that police should ...

Police: Mail Bombs Could Have Exploded Over East Coast

(Nov. 10) -- A mail bomb that was intercepted at East Midlands Airport in England last month could have exploded over the Eastern Seaboard, Scotland Yard said today. "If the device had not been removed from the aircraft, the activation could have occurred over the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S.," British officials said in a statement, according to The Associated Press. The bomb, which was disguised as a printer cartridge, had been sent from Yemen and was bound for an airport in Philadelphia when it was discovered on Oct 29. According to British police, the bomb was timed to detonate about ...

British Police Hunt Lettuce-Headed Burglar

LONDON (Sept. 22) -- Police in southern England have issued a bizarre photo-composite rendering of a suspected burglar with one very distinguishing feature: His head has a halo of lettuce leaves. The thief -- wanted for stealing $90 from an elderly woman -- was described by his victim as a 40-something-year-old man, with wavy blond-gray hair. Unfortunately, when Hampshire police typed those details into their Electronic Facial Identification Technique software program, the computer churned out a picture of a man with bright-green, lettucelike hair. Hampshire Police Police have admitted ...

British Police Say They're Closing In on Raoul Moat

LONDON (July 9) -- It's been six days since Raoul Moat embarked on a shooting spree in the north of England, allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend, killing her boyfriend and seriously wounding a police officer. UK Manhunt for Cop-Hating Gunman Continues

LONDON (July 7) -- A gunman who went on a shooting spree in the north of England four days ago is still at large, despite a massive police operation that has seen checkpoints set up across the rural county of Northumberland. Hundreds of officers are scouring the woodland, countryside and roads around the normally quiet town of Rothbury in their hunt for Raoul Moat, who police say is armed with "one or two guns" and has a plentiful supply of ammunition. Moat, 37, a former bodybuilder and nightclub bouncer, is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, 22 -- and who broke up with ...
