Immigration Law Signing Boosts Jan Brewer in Arizona Governor Race

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who had been entangled in the state's budget woes and fights with members of her own party, is riding a wave of support in the race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination following her signing of the state's tough new immigration law, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted May 17. Brewer's support among likely primary voters has rocketed from 26 percent in mid April, about 10 days before she signed the legislation, to 45 percent in the new survey, giving her leads of 27 points or more over her challengers. McCain, Brewer Leading Their GOP Primary Opponents in Arizona

In Arizona's pair of GOP primary races, Sen. John McCain still has a double-digit lead over former conservative talk show host J.D. Hayworth although he's slipped under 50 percent support, while Gov. McCain is leading Hayworth 48 percent to 36 percent with 6 percent preferring someone else and 10 percent undecided. He had led 52 percent to 37 percent in Research 2000's last poll in late March. Sheriff Arpaio Could Derail Brewer's Bid for GOP Governor Nod in Arizona

Despite squabbles with her own party that have hurt her, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer appears to have just one major obstacle before her in the race for the GOP nomination -- and that is whether the popular and controversial Joseph Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County, decides to get into the race. Brewer has a significant lead over the announced GOP candidates, even though it's not an impressive number for an incumbent. She is ahead of the field with 38 percent followed by businessman Buz Mills at 19 percent, state Treasurer Dean Martin at 16 percent and lawyer John Munger at 3 percent, ...

Democrats' Goddard Leads Two, Trails Two in Arizona Governor's Race

Democrat Terry Goddard, Arizona's attorney general, is leading two potential rivals and trailing two others in the state's gubernatorial race, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted March 16. Goddard tops Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, who has been weakened by political feuds with her own party and the state's budget woes.
