Sen. Robert Byrd Seriously Ill in Hospital

WASHINGTON (June 27) -- Sen. Robert C. Byrd, who holds the record as the longest-serving member of Congress, is seriously ill in a Washington-area hospital. The West Virginia Democrat's office says the 92-year-old lawmaker has been in the hospital since late last week. At first he was believed to be suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration. But his office says in a statement doctors have examined Byrd and other medical conditions have developed. His condition is described as serious. In November, Byrd broke the record for congressional service that had been set by Democrat Carl ...

Top 10 Lists of 2009 Google Searches Dominated by Democrats, but Not Obama

Google on Tuesday released the top searches within the United States for 2009; the results are surprising and interesting. The top Google searches for senators show that people are more interested in reading about Democrats than Republicans -- only Chuck Grassley of Iowa at No. 9 made the list for the GOP. And it also shows that people are doing more searches for senators with key roles in legislation than for senators caught up in scandals. No surprise, Ted Kennedy tops the Senate Google searches, as he died this year. Second on the Senate list is Nelson, but the Google people don't tell us ...

Byrd has already stepped aside once, and might decide to make a stand or quit altogether. One can hope, anyway. But we would miss great scenes like this: In one of the funniest interactions in the Senate over the previous year, Senator Jim Bunning, Republican ...

Obama and the Senate Put Tax Cheat in Charge of IRS

I'm a little incredulous, because I've been told that Obama and the people around him are extremely smart, savvy, sophisticated men. So far, I personally have not seen much evidence of that. This Geithner nomination is plenty of evidence in the other direction.Larry Kudlow has it right. In the midst of an economic crisis, Obama pushes through a wounded, perhaps fatally, Treasury secretary:Over a third of the Senate voted against Tim Geithner's confirmation as Treasury secretary, though he did pass the test by 60 to 34 early Monday evening. That is the closest post-WWII margin for a Treasury ...

Kennedy and Byrd Update

George Stephanapolous has the Kennedy Doctor's statement:A statement released by Dr. Edward Aulisi, chairman of neurosurgery at the Washington Hospital Center reads: "Senator Edward Kennedy experienced a seizure today while attending a luncheon for President Barack Obama in the U.S. Capitol. After testing, we believe the incident was brought on by simple fatigue. Senator Kennedy is awake, talking with family and friends, and feeling well. He will remain at the Washington Hospital Center overnight for observation, and will be released in the morning."After visiting Kennedy in the hospital, ...
