Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Melinda Henneberger over on our parent site argues that Paterson's treatment of Caroline was nothing short of humiliation, and that Kennedy's explanation of bowing out is an attack on Paterson of sorts:Sen. Kennedy seems to have weathered his seizure on Inauguration Day. And the idea that Caroline is pulling out to spend more time with her uncle, who she'd surely see more of if she were in the Senate, is so improbable that I'm not sure whether Kennedy is floating it to save her own face -- or to rub a little mud in Paterson's.Henneberger goes on to suggest that Kennedy take Paterson's apparent ...

The New York Times is reporting today that an aide to New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is working to undermine Caroline Kennedy's Senate bid. Apparently, Joseph Perocco has been working the phones to labor leaders and other power players in an attempt to raise doubts about Kennedy in advance of Governor David Patterson's decision on his appointment.A top Cuomo aide urged labor leaders and upstate officials to refrain from embracing Caroline Kennedy for the job, according to several people with direct knowledge of the conversations. Two of the people, including a prominent upstate ...
I was randomly perusing RedState today, when I saw a list of Barack Obama's New Years Resolutions by someone calling himself Absentee. The list was really funny (I especially liked the doodles in the margins), so I immediately wanted to steal the premise. I hit a major roadblock, however, when I tried to think of a single Republican who matters anymore.Instead, I have obtained snippets of many different political figures' New Years resolutions. Let me know if you think I've missed any.New Years ResolutionsRod Blagojevich - Get copy of "Writing 'For Dummies' Books...For Dummies" and write ...
Over at Politico, Michael Calderone has a list of the Top 10 Scoops of the Year:1. Couric and Palin (CBS News)2. McCain's houses (Politico)3. Obama on "bitter" small-town Americans (Huffington Post)4. Palin's shopping spree (Politico)5. Clinton camp turmoil (Washington Post and The Atlantic)6. Jeremiah Wright tapes (ABC News)7. Network TV's military analysts (New York Times)8. McCain's inner circle (New York Times Magazine)9. Edwards' extramarital affair (National Enquirer)10. Powell's endorsement (NBC)I immediately noticed that none of these were from The Political Machine. That's somewhat ...
Terry McAuliffe wants to be governor of Virginia. And why not? He's got charisma, he's got Clintons pouring out of every orifice, and he's got nearly as much governing experience as Caroline Kennedy. He's also batshit crazy, as evidenced by his penchant for screaming at Chris Matthews, chugging rum with Joe Scarborough, and riding mechanical bulls while his staff stares in slackjawed disbelief. But don't think that's going to stop McAuliffe in his quest to run the Old Dominion. As the Washington Post points out, Terry's coming to the fight with buckets and buckets of cash...After spending much ...
Read the full transcript for Caroline Kennedy's interview with the New York Times (it's worth the time) and you hear a woman who is, yes, totally unprepared to answer the most basic questions on why she should be handed a Senate seat. The two Times' reporters spend the first forty percent of their time trying to drill down and understand why - and how badly - she wants it. Totally fair. What's odd is that she apparently didn't think she'd be asked these questions. Feeling trapped, her responses are bristling and sometimes haughty. (She told NY1's Dominic Carter she's had to work "twice as hard" ...
Last week, we gave you an odds chart for the highly coveted Illinois Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama. Well, back east in New York, Sen. Hillary Clinton's promotion to the State Department has set off a similar scramble.Choosing Hillary's replacement is Gov. David Paterson, who, unlike his Illinois counterpart Rod Blagojevich, won't be rewarded with $500,000 and a cushy ambassadorship for his selection. He also doesn't tend to hold wildly defensive press conferences while wearing a wet cat on his head, so this race isn't nearly as fun.Nevertheless, here are your odds on the leading ...
Candidate for senate appointment Caroline Kennedy gave an exclusive interview to NY1 today, discussing her candidacy. I know what you're thinking. What the hell is NY1? Apparently, it's NYC's 24-hour Newschannel. Her main sales pitch seems to be that she knows people in Washington DC. Maybe I should get ahold of David Paterson, I know a few people in DC. From NY1:"I think I have relationships in Washington that I would like to put to work to benefit the people of New York," she said. "I helped run the vice presidential search for Barack Obama, I have a good working relationship with him."Well, ...
It's Day 14 of the Illinois Senate Scandal, and we've got news for you: Barack Obama's old seat remains vacant, special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is still preparing his indictment, and no one has reached the minimum bid listed in Rod Blagojevich's eBay account.Let's have a look at who's still standing in this mess and place some odds on the next man or woman to join the world's most powerful governing body. Candidate Pros Cons Odds of Appointment Rep. Jan Schakowsky Seems untarnished by the scandal. A known commodity statewide. America ...
