Former GOP Committee Treasurer Christopher Ward Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

The former treasurer of the National Republican Congressional Committee has pleaded guilty to embezzling $845,000 in GOP campaign funds over a six-year period. Christopher J. Ward acknowledged in court papers that between 2001 and 2007 he transferred money from campaign accounts he controlled to his own bank account, Congressional Quarterly reported. Most of the 18 committee accounts he stole from were set up to fund the President's Dinner, an annual GOP fundraiser.
