The JFK-UFO Connection: Bogus Documents or Unanswered Questions?

Do you like a good UFO detective story? Well, here's one for you. And it's ongoing, so we don't yet know the ending. It involves President John F. Kennedy's interest in UFOs shortly before his death and an allegation that he may have angered officials in his administration when he asked for information on the subject. Recently, the FBI opened a new website, "The Vault," that lets you view a variety of documents, including those regarding UFOs. I looked into one document that appears to include a phony UFO story and mentioned how important it is to be extremely careful when looking at UFO ...

Air Force Backs Off Legal Threat Against WikiLeaks Readers

Teenage children of U.S. Air Force personnel no longer face the threat of being charged with espionage for reading secret diplomatic cables freely available on the Internet. The Air Force Materiel Command printed an official news story Monday quoting its legal office as saying, "If a family member of an Air Force employee accesses WikiLeaks on a home computer, the family member may be subject to prosecution for espionage under U.S. Code Title 18 Section 793." Now, Air Force headquarters has backed away from that hard-line position and is disavowing the original statement. "The release was ...

US Tries to Contain Damage From Leaked Cables

WASHINGTON (Nov. 29) -- The release of more than 250,000 classified State Department documents forced the Obama administration into damage control, trying to contain fallout from unflattering assessments of world leaders and revelations about backstage U.S. diplomacy. The publication of the secret cables amplified widespread global alarm about Iran's nuclear ambitions and unveiled occasional U.S. pressure tactics aimed at hot spots in Afghanistan, Pakistan and North Korea. The leaks also disclosed bluntly candid impressions from both diplomats and other world leaders about America's allies ...

Iraq War Documents Shed Light on Civilian Deaths, Prisoner Abuse

The private Web site WikiLeaks, acting through several news organizations it selected, released a massive batch of classified Iraq war-related documents, which contain no dramatic new revelations but provide critical "context'' to the war and the U.S. role from 2003 through 2009, the New York Times reported. WikiLeaks Iraq Docs: US Didn't Probe Abuse Allegations

LONDON (Oct. 22) - U.S. forces often failed to follow up on credible evidence that Iraqi forces mistreated, tortured and killed their captives as they battled a violent insurgency, according to accounts contained in what was purportedly the largest leak of secret information in U.S. history. The documents are among nearly 400,000 released Friday by the WikiLeaks website in defiance of Pentagon insistence that the action puts the lives of U.S. troops and their coalition partners at risk. Although the documents appear to be authentic, their origin could not be independently confirmed, and ...

He's also under attack from members of his own organization, who are accusing him of running the controversial whistle-blowing website like an autocrat. WikiLeaks' German representative, Daniel Domscheit-Berg -- who was known as Daniel Schmitt while acting as the site's spokesman -- announced Monday he was quitting the organization because he could no longer work under Assange. Military Denies WikiLeaks Cooperation Claims

(Aug. 18) -- The Defense Department's civilian leadership and the Army are denying new claims by WikiLeaks that the military has reached out to the self-described whistle-blowing organization to cooperate on the review of some 15,000 leaked military documents. WikiLeaks has released thousands of the classified military documents related to the war in Afghanistan and has promised to release the remaining 15,000 in the coming weeks. The remaining documents are considered particularly sensitive, and WikiLeaks Editor Julian Assange has said the organization would be willing to have the Pentagon ...
