Richard Blumenthal Apologizes for Vietnam Statements

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has formally apologized for repeatedly referring to himself as a Vietnam veteran or referencing his return from Vietnam, even though he served stateside in the Marine Reserves after receiving five deferments from joining the military. Former Wrestling Exec McMahon Takes Lead in Race for GOP Senate Nod in Connecticut

Linda McMahon, the former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment, has taken the lead among the field of candidates seeking the GOP nomination for Senate, but all the Republican hopefuls still trail Democrat Richard Blumenthal by margins of 2-1 or more, according to a Quinnipiac University poll conducted March 9-15. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who stepped into the Senate race when Christopher Dodd stepped out, remains a prohibitive favorite for election with big leads over three GOP challengers, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted March 2. Blumenthal leads former Rep. Rob Simmons by 58 percent to 32 percent, with 3 percent preferring someone else and 7 percent undecided.
