Topless Feminists Protest 'Win a Wife' Competition

A feminist group in Ukraine has protested a radio station competition to "win a wife" in the most eye-catching way possible -- by removing clothes. The Femen Movement is angered by a contest organized by a New Zealand radio station that offered a listener the opportunity to travel to Ukraine and meet women. Nine women protested in wintry Kiev by going topless and holding aloft banners that claimed "Ukraine is not a brothel" and "Welcome to hell." "Femen warns the lucky winner of the New Zealand competition that he can expect an unhappy ending in Ukraine," activist Olexandra Shevchenko ...

Disabled Man Banned From Driving Wheelchair Tank

This could be a real case of tanks for nothin'. British authorities have told a disabled man he cannot use his wheelchair on public streets because he requires a tank license to drive it. Jim Starr, 36, has been banned from using his custom-made wheelchair by Britain's Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency, which claims it is actually a tank. "The whole idea of the chair was that I could go down to the beach with the kids," said Starr. "It is a fantastic machine and can take me anywhere I want to go. It has no limits. "It is ridiculous that I should have found a chair that could help me do ...

Clarence Thomas' Wife to Anita Hill: Apologize

(Oct. 19) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was narrowly appointed to the bench almost 19 years ago after a notoriously bitter confirmation process in which he was accused, but never found guilty, of sexual harassment by a former colleague named Anita Hill. His wife, Virginia Thomas, has never quite gotten past that ugly episode, it seems. Just last week, she reportedly left a voice mail on Hill's answering machine to the following effect, according to an ABC News investigative report: "Good morning, Anita Hill, it's Ginny Thomas," said the voice, "I just wanted to reach across ...

Review Roundup: 'Medal of Honor' Not So Controversial After All

(Oct. 12) -- After much controversy over a "Taliban" multi-player mode, vociferous critics, a ban in military stores and a last-minute compromise, Electronic Arts' new shooter for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, "Medal of Honor," was released today. The early reviews are in, and it's a mixed bag. Critics are divided on the quality of the game-play, but most agree that all the bickering over name changes was much ado about nothing. Unlike the occasionally uncomfortable "Call of Duty" series, this game wasn't trying to deliver a message more complicated than "America is awesome" (or, in the ...

Museum Intentionally Showcases Particularly Bad Art

(Oct. 4) -- The world's greatest art museums have a new rival in their midst -- kind of. While New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre in Paris need not lock up their treasures just yet, there is a new kid on the block. Museum of Particularly Bad Art Is this painting, titled "Madonna and Child," a metaphor about religion and celebrity -- or is it just a piece of bad art? It can be found at the Museum of Particularly Bad Art. The Museum of Particularly Bad Art in Melbourne, Australia, is attempting to boost the blossoming genre of paintings in poor taste with an annual ...

FBI Charges Ex-Dean With Bribery and Forced Labor

(Oct. 1) -- Should shoveling snow be part of the curriculum for a degree in Asian studies? (Obviously, no.) But that reportedly didn't stop Cecilia Chang, the former St. John's University Institute of Asian Studies dean accused of embezzling more than $1 million in school funds, from demanding the service, among other menial tasks, from her scholarship students. Chang, who controlled 15 scholarships each worth at least $5,000, required her students to perform menial tasks to maintain their funding, according to the FBI. The FBI report listed chauffeuring her son to the airport at 3 a.m., ...

NFL, Referee Stand by Call Against Lions on Calvin Johnson Non-Touchdown

For a second on Sunday afternoon, the Detroit Lions appeared to have beaten the Chicago Bears. Calvin Johnson caught a pass in the end zone with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, got both feet down, went to the ground, put the ball down and celebrated as the official closest to the play signaled touchdown. But another official came in and overruled the first official, saying Johnson didn't just put the ball down -- he dropped it and failed to maintain possession, and therefore it was an incomplete pass. The Lions, obviously, were not pleased. But the NFL and the referee insist ...
