Another Nutjob Preacher!

Another Nutjob Preacher!

Another day, another nutjob preacher denounced on the campaign trail. You might have thought that after Jeremiah Wright, John Hagee, and Rod Parsley, we'd be granted a YouTube respite from these not-so-great-moments-in-pulpitry. And you'd be wrong. Meet Father Michael Pfleger, the latest holy man to be dropped, hot-potato-style, by a presidential hopeful. Have a gander at the remarks he made about Hillary Clinton at, where else, Trinity United Church of Christ.Oy vey! What is it with these guys? Why didn't they all just go to theater camp and try for a bit role in "Hamlet"? Here's Barack ...

McCain Disses Preachers

McCain Disses Preachers

It has become a leitmotif of this year's race for the presidency: Kooky preacher spouts off and is publicly dropped by political candidate. The latest edition of preacher hot-potato comes in the form of a twofer. John McCain has made an about face, and, in what might be called a preemptive move had he not actively courted the endorsement of the preachers in question, he has now rejected the endorsement of ministers John Hagee and Ron Parsley. McCain's story is an odd one. Here is a man who once bravely repudiated Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson as "agents of intolerance," only to later buy ...

Obama: Rev. Wright's Statements Offensive

Rev. Wright's ongoing media tour can only be giving the Obama campaign agita. The rev is ostensibly trying to put his controversial words into context, explaining that what he said from up on the pulpit wasn't so kooky. But it's only prolonging the scandal with Indiana and North Carolina coming right up. Now, hoping to gain some control over the situation, Obama is going on the offensive, using his strongest words yet against Wright. A few weeks ago Obama said he would not condemn the reverend; now he's doing it in no uncertain terms. Is it too little, too late? Are Obama's harsh words even ...

Surro-Gate: Proxymorons

Surro-Gate: Proxymorons

Recently the NC GOP was rebuked by John McCain for an inflammatory advertisement featuring footage of Senator Obama's infamous pastor delivering some of his most incendiary commentary. The ad is controversial in that it paints Senator Obama as extreme, and links that characterization to local politicians. Although the ad is not a presidential campaign ad, it clearly touches on presidential campaign politics. The NC GOP is not really a McCain campaign surrogate, but this of course calls to mind many similar situations that have occurred this political season. The surrogates seem to have an ...

Hillary Should Denounce Steinem

By  Ada Calhoun - Politics Daily
Hillary Should Denounce Steinem

During a speech this weekend described in a shocking article in The Observer, Gloria Steinem said some terrible things on behalf of Hillary Clinton's campaign: "Suppose John McCain had been Joan McCain and Joan McCain had got captured, shot down and been a POW for eight years. [The media would ask], 'What did you do wrong to get captured? What terrible things did you do while you were there as a captive for eight years?'" . . . "I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don't think so." Steinem got even more anti-military from there: ...
