Military Releases Reuters Photographer After Detaining Him for Over a Year

The U.S. military has released a Reuters photographer who was held without charges for nearly a year and a half, Reuters reports. The military has not explained why it held Jassam Mohammed, a Baghdad native who worked as a freelance photographer for international news agencies, saying the evidence against him is classified. U.S. and Iraqi forces burst into Mohammed's home in Mahmudiya in the middle of the night in September 2008. Plan to Move Guantanamo Detainees Hits Funding Roadblock

A plan to move the some of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay to an underutilized correctional facility in Illinois hit an unexpected roadblock when Congress refused to allocate funds for purchasing the prison, the New York Times reports. Without that funding, the White House says it will likely be unable to close the infamous military prison in Cuba until at least 2011.
