Two Western Photojournalists Killed in Libya

MISRATA, Libya -- Two Western photojournalists, including an Oscar-nominated film director, were killed Wednesday in the besieged city of Misrata while covering battles between rebels and Libyan government forces. Two others working alongside them were wounded. Misrata Residents Describe Nonstop Shelling

MISRATA, Libya -- Inside the besieged city of Misrata, spent rockets protrude from the pavement of a parking lot, unarmed teenagers prepare plastic crates of Molotov cocktails, and fighters at roadblocks sit inside empty shipping containers outfitted with furniture, carpets and generator-powered TVs and watch Al-Jazeera reports of their war with Moammar Gadhafi. For nearly two months, Gadhafi's forces have laid siege to the only major city in western Libya still in opposition hands, and its residents said the attacks have been relentless and hundreds of people have been killed. A British war ...

Did Journalist Find 'THE Nails' Used to Crucify Jesus?

JERUSALEM -- Controversial journalist Simcha Jacobovici says he may have found the nails that were used to crucify Jesus more than 2,000 years ago. He chronicled his Indiana Jones-type search in a new documentary called "The Nails of the Cross," which was screened today at a news conference in Jerusalem and will be broadcast in the U.S., Canada and Israel in the coming weeks. Jacobovici presented two first-century Roman nails that were bent "in a way that is consistent with crucifixion." He contends that these are the same nails found in the burial tomb of Caiaphas, the Jewish high priest ...

'Monopoly' Fanatics Have a Monopoly on Weirdness

Almost everyone has played Monopoly, but for some people it's a way of life. In fact, some people have gone so far as to have their backs tattooed with a complete Monopoly board, while others have decorated their bathrooms in a Monopoly scheme. Filmmaker Kevin Tostado isn't that obsessed, but he still dreams of being a Monopoly champion and representing the U.S. in the world championships in 2013. Michael J. Maloney Kevin Tostado, the director of "Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story," is such a big Monopoly fan that he sometimes dresses up as Mr. Monopoly, the game's iconic ...

Filmmaker Learns Joys of Life-Size Love Dolls as Alternative Soul Mates

All Dave Hockey wanted to do was make a documentary about people in the adult doll community. He never thought he'd become a part of it. If you don't know about the lifelike dolls like the one featured in the 2007 Ryan Gosling movie "Lars and the Real Girl," you'd better sit down. This is a story about men who not only have sex with anatomically correct action figures, they take them to dinner ... and on vacations. "I get obsessive," he admitted to AOL News. Now the 57-year-old Nova Scotia-based filmmaker has 12 dolls, including "Bianca," one of four dolls used in "Lars and the Real ...

Filmmaker Psychs Out Psychics and ET Believers

Many of us have given a few bucks to some alleged psychic to tell us stuff we already know, but what if you spent your entire life savings looking into the future, attempting to contact ghosts and protecting yourself from aliens? That's the premise behind filmmaker Blake Freeman's newest documentary, "Gawd Bless America," in which he travels across America with a 69-year-old "believer" named LeRoy Tessina who's gone bankrupt after years of buying into fraudulent fortune-tellers and alien-protection devices. In hopes of setting Tessina straight, the duo set out on a weird cross-country ...

Iran to Air Alleged Confession by Condemned Woman

(Dec. 10) -- Iran plans to broadcast what it says is a confession by Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the woman who was condemned to death by stoning for adultery and now is serving 10 years in prison for murder. State-run Press TV is set to air the confession tonight as part of a documentary on her case, according to the station's website. The broadcaster dismissed reports that the woman had been freed, pinning them on a "vast publicity campaign by Western media." The station described Ashtiani as a "confessed murderer." "Press TV's 'Iran Today' program will shed light on the highways and ...

Jedi or Not, Here Comes a New 'Star Wars' Documentary

(Aug. 10) -- A long time ago in a state far, far away, New York filmmaker Mark Edlitz decided he wanted to make a movie he cared about. The lifelong "Star Wars" fan racked his brain for months before an idea hit him, but when it did, it came with such a force that it carried the impact of one of Yoda's grammatically backward but pithy comments. Yes, Edlitz decided he would make a documentary about his fellow "Star Wars" fans, or, as Yoda might put it: "Make a film about 'Star Wars' fans, you should." Mark Edlitz For fans of "Star Wars," the films exist far beyond the silver screen. Belly ...

Robert "Joe" Halderman, who is currently serving a six-month sentence for trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman, was nominated for an Emmy on Thursday, The New York Observer reports. Halderman, a former CBS producer, was nominated for his production work, along with three other producers, on the 48 Hours special "American Girl, Italian Nightmare," a documentary on Amanda Knox, the American student now serving a long jail sentence in Italy for murder.
