Federal authorities have pulled 23 more corpses from a mass grave near the town of San Fernando in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, bringing the death toll to 145 in a mass killing that has managed to shock even the violence-hardened residents of northeastern Mexico. Sixteen police officers were arrested there Thursday for allegedly serving as accomplices to members of a drug cartel suspected in the slayings, the federal attorney general said in a statement. Twenty-three of the 145 victims found so far were killed at least a month before drug gangs began kidnapping bus passengers along a ...
MEXICO CITY -- Mexican investigators found a clandestine grave with six bodies in Tamaulipas state, bringing to 122 the number of bodies found in pits in a region near the U.S. border that is wracked by battling drug cartels, authorities said Wednesday. Tamaulipas state Interior Secretary Morelos Canseco said investigators are searching for more bodies at the pit found late Tuesday. The bodies were taken to a morgue in Matamoros, across the border from Brownsville, Texas. SAN DIEGO - Jesus Navarro eluded U.S. authorities even before he became the prime suspect in the 2008 killing of a Border Patrol agent. Their long efforts to get the Mexican man convicted in a U.S. court paid off Tuesday when a federal jury deliberated only two hours to find him guilty of murdering Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar at a popular southeastern California campground. Jurors rejected testimony by Navarro that he wasn't even in the marijuana-filled Hummer that struck and killed Aguilar at the Imperial Sand Dunes. Navarro also said he was forced to confess to the crime under ...

The U.S. State Department issued a new warning against travel in Tamaulipas after 16 more bodies were found there over the weekend, raising the death toll in the string of abductions in the region to 88. U.S. citizens are discouraged from traveling in three Mexican states. "The United States Consulates General in Matamoros, Nuevo ...

The federal health agency approved the injectable drug, called Yervoy, for late-stage or metastatic melanoma. The agency has only approved two other drugs for advanced melanoma, the last of which was cleared more than 13 years ago. Neither drug has been shown to significantly extend patient lives.
