Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Zimbabwe's premier conservationist, a 62-year-old man who says he's endured assassination attempts for trying to preserve wildlife in one of Africa's poorest and most repressive countries, can't watch the video showing Bob Parsons, the billionaire CEO of GoDaddy.com, shooting and killing an elephant. "I've seen so many of the atrocities against elephants and other wildlife here that it sickens me to the bottom of my soul," Johnny Rodrigues, chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, told AOL News today on the telephone from Harare. "But I have read what Parsons said, and he is totally ...
A new study shows that elephants have a talent that even many humans lack: Pachyderms can learn cooperation. In experiments at a Thai refuge, paired elephants quickly figured out that they could reach bowls of treats only if they worked together. When one partner yanked on a rope, the treats bowls remained out of reach. When both partners pulled on the rope simultaneously, the bowls moved close enough for the animals to help themselves. Cooperation itself is not rare in the animal kingdom -- think of honey bees. But the ability to learn a new cooperative task and understand its workings is ...

Like a cheeky chipmunk trying to munch on a peanut that's bigger than its head, a disoriented black bear with its head stuck in a milk jug or a boozed-up lorikeet that's flapping drunk after eating fermented fruit. ...
(July 2) -- On the Fourth of July, Nathan's Famous will host its annual hot dog eating contest at Coney Island in New York. But earlier today, three of the Major League Eating competitors faced a bigger challenge than anything they'll see Sunday. And by big, I mean Asian elephant big. As part of the celebration of P.T. Barnum's 200th birthday, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey hosted a cross-species, cross-gender, six-minute contest to see who can eat the most hot dog buns at its Coney Island Illuscination tent. The three female elephants (Susie, Minnie and Bunny), weighing in at more than ...
