The New York City meteorologist accused of lying to police about being assaulted appeared in a Manhattan court today as prosecutors presented documents alleging that she faked her story for attention. Dressed in a dark dress suit, Heidi Jones briefly appeared before Criminal Court Judge Lynn Kotler with her attorney, Paul Callan. Jones said nothing as she listened to Assistant District Attorney Shanda Strain detail the case against her, which could earn her up to a year in prison. LONDON (Aug. 27) -- Terrified passengers aboard a British Airways jet thought they were about to plunge to their death after the plane's pilot accidentally activated an emergency announcement. The high-altitude gaffe Tuesday caused a chilling automated message to be broadcast in the cabin. "This is an emergency announcement," said a calm female voice, according to The Sun. The exact number is 46.3 million, an increase of 600,000 from 2007 to 2008, according to new statistics released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau.The overall number of people with insurance rose by 1.7 million to 255.1 million last year.
