Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! It was the rhetorical equivalent of hitting a hornet's nest. After Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak addressed his fellow citizens and the world about the future of his government, the mood of hundreds of thousands of protesting citizens turned from one of celebration to outright rage. Across the globe, observers commented that Mubarak was tone deaf, out of touch and essentially not hearing the voices of his own people. But what if the Egyptian leader were actually trying to incite the protesters? CNN's Fareed Zakaria argued that Mubarak's words may have been more calculated than ...
(Aug. 9) -- What began with the right-wing political campaign against the "Ground Zero Mosque," an Islamic community center that is neither a mosque nor located at ground zero, has now become a national phenomenon. Crowds of protesters, sometimes aligned with the conservative Tea Party movement, are now rallying against proposed mosques in such locations as Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Sheboygan, Wis.; Bridgeport, Conn.; and Temecula, Calif. What's behind this sudden and severe backlash against Muslim-American families? And where is it headed next? Typical Anti-Immigrant Sentiment: The New York ...

Instead, at 1:26 pm Sunday afternoon, I rapturously luxuriated in a heavenly choir serenading me with the sounds of silence, as a blessed sense of peace washed over my body. After more than 60 hours of eye-glazed communion with the three major cable news networks (enough time to watch every episode from all three seasons of "Mad Men" twice), the television set was mercifully off. I had set out on this ...
This figurative question has been asked quite a bit in the wake of last Tuesday's historic election. What does it mean to be a member of the Grand Old Party? That you favor small government over large? That you cling to guns and God more than your Democrat neighbors? That the issue of abortion trumps all else? Perhaps all three reasons apply. Whatever the reason for Republican affiliation, a clear side-effect of this political condition became apparent in the waning days of the campaign, and has taken hold of the party faithful: Anger. Consider this now-famous exchange from a McCain rally. The ...
