A lawsuit filed by the Center for Science in the Public Interest on behalf of a California mother contends that the fast-food chain McDonald's is "circumventing parental control" by luring children into desiring the company's toy-packing Happy Meals, the Los Angeles Times reported. Mary, I agree with your assessment that we Americans (and citizens of other wealthy nations) are absolutely piggish when it comes to eating meat. And the arguments you cite as to why our dietary excesses are taking a toll on our bodies, our souls, our national health-care system, and our environment, are spot-on. Still, I have to be honest.I don't think I will ever stop eating meat. Linda, the scene you describe from the movie "Food Inc.," in which a family of four is unable to afford fresh pears and instead is compelled to choke down fast-food "dollar meals" sounds heartbreaking. I have yet to see the movie because -- most frustratingly -- it is not playing anywhere in the D.C. area, where I live (though I did read both '"The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "Fast Food Nation," on which the film is based).
