Diddy The Notorious B.I.G., who was born Christopher Wallace and also known as Biggie Smalls, was famously tight with Diddy. Tuesday, during an interview with New York City radio station Power 105.1, he shared some thoughts about the anniversary of his friend's death. It's not a sad occasion, he said, but a happy one, because everyone joins in remembering ...

"Politics" is the latest dirty word for rapper Luther Campbell to work into his vocabulary. Campbell, the raunchy rapper from 2 Live Crew, is running for Miami-Dade County mayor in Florida and thinks he could boost the economy with a tax on exotic dancers. "I'm mad frustrated," Campbell said about crime in his hometown in an interview in the Miami New Times. "Why aren't we getting it right in Miami-Dade? Why is our government only serving one set of people? That's what is pushing me to run." Retna / Corbis; Michael Ochs Archives / Getty Images Pictured is Luther Campbell today, ...

On his blog today, Premier has urged fans to make donations to Kool Herc via PayPal or regular mail. WorldStarHipHop.com, which billed itself as "the CNN of urban media," is offline as of today, with no official explanation for its disappearance. On Twitter, meanwhile, a famous rap star stepped forward to take credit for the site's demise. Reveling in his apparent influence, 50 Cent tweeted the following message to his followers: .bbpBox29641592193159170 {background:url(http://a1.twimg.com/profile_background_images/146359618/guns.jpg) #ffffff;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px ...
In what may be the least-shocking news of the day, 40 Glocc, the rapper who nicknamed himself after a semiautomatic weapon, was arrested for allegedly carrying -- wait for it -- a semiautomatic weapon. San Bernardino, Calif., police arrested Glocc (birth name: Lawrence White) after finding a loaded 9-millimeter handgun in his Range Rover. Glocc, who's said to be a member of the Colton City Crips gang, was parked one block from an apartment complex from which he had been banned in 2008. Glocc has denied his alleged gang membership. He's even told reporters that he goes by the misspelling of ...
Rap music raises plenty of questions, from "What's my name?" to "When's the last time you heard a funky diabetic?" Thankfully, a number of analytic hip-hop experts are willing to share the answers. Online and in print, lyric lovers have crafted rap Rosetta stones that can help new listeners parse through some of the genre's most difficult-to-understand rhymes. "Most rap listeners, like most rock listeners, are more interested in a hot beat and a catchy hook than deep, meaningful lyrics," said Tom Lehman, one of the founders of the Internet rap interpretation site Rap Genius. "The difference ...
No more sleep for the Beastie Boys. Vocalist and drummer Mike D says that the veteran rap trio is on pace for a 2011 comeback following fellow band member Adam Yauch's improving prognosis in his battle with cancer. Mike D told BBC Radio that the group, which last performed together in 2009, will follow its original plan to release the second side of its new double album, "Hot Sauce Committee," in the spring. Part one was delayed and remains unfinished due to Yauch taking 2010 off to fight his illness. In July 2009, Yauch underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his salivary gland. ...
KAMPALA, Uganda (Dec. 11) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has "written" a rap song ahead of the February election that's become the most popular ring tone in this hip-hop-loving nation, and now he's looking to copyright his smash hit. There's just one problem: He didn't compose the rhyme; it's a Kinyankole children's song to which Museveni has added the single line, "You want another rap?" -- which is also the song's title. The song's lyrics ignore pressing electoral issues like corruption, high unemployment and rising tribal tensions in favor of a tale about a knife that's traded for ...
(Aug. 18) -- According to Forbes Magazine's Hip-Hop's Cash Kings 2010 list, rappers may not make quite as much as you think. Or, more specifically, they do not earn as much as you might think from their actual rapping. It seems that being a producer, vodka mogul and actor all prove much more lucrative than the music itself, which is perhaps why Eminem, who has sold more records than anyone -- on this or any other list -- since 2000 but earns little income beyond record sales, finds himself tied for 14th, while Dr. Dre, who has not put out a solo studio album since 1999, comes in fifth. But ...
