Archaeologists Find First Known Gay Caveman Near Prague

An unusual burial may have outed the world's first known gay caveman, whose bones were discovered outside Prague in a grave that indicates he was homosexual or possibly transgendered. During the Copper Age 5,000 years ago, men were traditionally buried facing the west, along with weapons and knives. But archaeologists in the Czech Republic say the skeletal remains of the newly discovered caveman were found facing the east, along with household items like water jugs and pots, funeral rites almost always reserved for women in the region during that time. Europics Archaeologists have ...

Did Chinese Scientists Turn Mice Gay?

If your pet mouse doesn't find the lady mice attractive, he could be lacking in serotonin. New research from scientists in China argues that the so-called happiness hormone plays a role in the sexual orientation of mice, the BBC reports. The study, published in the current edition of Nature, finds that male mice bred with brains unreceptive to serotonin lost their preference for female mice. The same was true for mice bred without the tryptophan hydroxylase 2 gene, which is necessary to produce serotonin. "This is the first time, to our knowledge, that a neurotransmitter in the brain has ...

Gay Marriage Decision May Not Hurt Obama or Help the Religious Right

Gay Marriage Decision May Not Hurt Obama or Help the Religious Right

When the Obama administration announced that it would adopt a matador defense on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the reaction from conservative Christian activists alternated between rage and celebration that the president had basically allowed the political right a slam dunk for the 2012 campaign. The Justice Department declared that it would no longer argue in court on behalf of a key restriction against gay marriage contained in the law, which effectively gives gay marriage a pass from the executive branch -- and gives the religious right a debating point. Slaying of Gay Activist Spotlights Homophobia's Rise in Uganda

KAMPALA, Uganda -- In this staunchly anti-homosexual country, Allen Mutebi has gotten used to moving -- five times within the last two years, to be exact. "They suspect. They talk. Threats are made. I move on," shrugs Mutebi, a gay man who spoke on condition that his real name not be used because he feared for his safety. AP The killing of gay right activist David Kato last month has reinforced anti-homosexual attitudes in Uganda. But following the killing of prominent gay rights activist David Kato two weeks ago, Mutebi plans to make one final move -- out of Uganda. "What ...

Ugandan High Court Bans Publishing Lists of Gays

Gay rights activists in Uganda are savoring a rare victory after the country's highest court banned the media from publishing lists of homosexuals. Monday's decision by the Ugandan high court came after gay rights activists filed a lawsuit protesting a local tabloid that has run lists of people it said are gay -- and called for them to be hanged. Justice Vincent Kibuuka Musoke ruled that a Ugandan tabloid must pay each of the three activists who filed suit $650 in damages and court costs. Pollution Turns Birds Gay, Study Finds

(Dec. 2) -- Leading to images of a dystopian future where men wander through smog-choked streets desperately trying to figure out whom to mate with (imagine the present with even more smog), Florida researchers have discovered that high levels of methylmercury may be creating large numbers of sexually confused white ibises and harming their rates of reproduction. "We knew mercury could depress their testosterone levels," University of Florida researcher Peter Frederick told the Daily Mail. "But we didn't expect this. In the worst-case scenario, the production of young would fall by 50 ...

Pentagon Finds That Homosexuals Won't Destroy the Military

(Nov. 30) -- It looks like congressional Democrats pushing to end the ban on gays serving openly in the U.S. military just got some fresh ammunition. A new Pentagon study, which was released today, found that overturning the "don't ask, don't tell" policy would do little harm overall to the country's armed forces, according to The Associated Press. Here's more from the AP: The study found that 70 percent of troops surveyed believed that repealing the law would have mixed, positive or no effect, while 30 percent predicted negative consequences. Opposition was strongest among combat troops, ...
