President Barack Obama has decided that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional and has ordered Attorney General Eric Holder to stop defending it in federal court. Until now, the Department of Justice has defended Section 3 of DOMA in court challenges. This section states that "the word 'marriage' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word 'spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife." (Sept. 30) -- Maritime and air rescue teams are scouring the Adriatic Sea for two Americans who've disappeared in a hot air balloon race over Europe. The Gordon Bennett Cup race began Sept. 25 in Bristol, England, with 20 hydrogen balloons trying to see who can fly the farthest on 1,000 cubic meters of gas. They flew over the English Channel, and most of the balloons made it only as far as France or northern Spain.
