(Nov. 2) -- Much has been written about the anger and disillusionment of voters this year. Pollsters are predicting a "throw the bums out" wave that could sweep hundreds of new candidates into office on Tuesday. The Tea Party has manifested much of this anger on the right but what is particularly striking and has been much less reported is the level of anger this year in the independent/swing voters, who represent a much bigger block of votes. ...
(Oct. 24) -- In order to get out of a great recession, maybe the country needs a president who lived through the Great Depression. And a retired engineer in Lancaster, Calif., thinks he knows just the guy for the job: himself. Don Cordell, 83, has been running for the nation's highest office since 2000 and doesn't plan to quit until he wins the hearts and minds of his fellow citizens. If elected in 2012, he would be the oldest U.S. president in history, even older than Ronald Reagan was when he retired, but Cordell sees his age as an advantage. Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent, said earlier this year "it's possible" he might run as a Republican when he's up for re-election in two years, and now GOP donors seem to want to help him make up his mind. The Connecticut senator, formerly a Democrat, will be the honored guest at a Washington dinner hosted by top Republican fundraisers, The New York Times reported. The June 22 event will benefit Lieberman's 2012 campaign, if he decides to run for a fifth term. The dinner will be held at Morton's Steakhouse in downtown Washington, according to an invitation obtained by the Times. Voters ...
As expected, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist announced Thursday that he has left the Republican Party and will run as an independent in the race for the Sunshine State's Senate seat. Crist, whose fortunes among Republicans have faded in recent months, told supporters in his home town of St. Petersburg that his decision to bolt the GOP is "the right thing for Florida." "My decision to run for the U.S. Senate as a candidate without party affiliation says more about our nation and our state than it says about me," Crist said during a short speech alongside his family. "Unfortunately our political ...
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will ditch the Republican Party and run as an independent in the race for the Sunshine State's Senate seat, it was reported Wednesday. Crist, whose fortunes within the GOP have faded in recent months, will make an official announcement Thursday in St. Petersburg, members of his camp told Fox News. The filing deadline is Friday. Last week, Crist, a moderate, told the Associated Press he was making a thoughtful and deliberate effort, guided by Florida residents, to decide whether to launch an independent campaign. He has repeatedly said he has no intention of ...

Michael Bloomberg has made a boatload of money, and with a net worth well in excess of $11 billion could run a campaign without feeling pain or needing fundraising. But the question remains, who is he and why should anyone care?In an election where everything remains up for grabs, someone with his resources would have to be taken seriously, I suppose. Here he is on health care, where his reputation as the Nanny is borne out. If he's serious about running, I suggest ditching the French cuffs, and, heavens, is that a pastel pink shirt? Never gonna win Ohio in that get up. ...
In politics it seems even a year's worth of vehement denials ain't worth much. Michael Bloomberg, Mr. No-way-no-how-am-I-running-for-president may just be running for... president. The Times reports the mayor's got advisers working overtime, consultants at the ready and the pieces in place for "a turnkey campaign infrastructure." That means if the climate is right, Bloomberg can announce his candidacy and have everything -- from fundraising to local offices -- ready to go.Despite public denials, the mayor has privately suggested scenarios in which he might be a viable candidate: for instance, ...
