The women are part of the 5 Browns musical group. BELOW IS OUR EARLIER POST: They seemed to be the picture of a wholesome family. But there apparently was a dark secret in the 5 Browns. The classical-piano-playing siblings in their 20s and 30s who make up the 5 Browns quintet are making headlines after the daughters accused their father of molesting them when they were children. Keith Brown has been charged with "one count of first-degree felony sodomy upon a child and two counts of ...
(Oct. 5) -- Is a prophecy known to few outside of the Mormon faith motivating Glenn Beck's crusade against President Barack Obama's administration? That's Washington reporter Dana Milbank's conclusion. In an article published Tuesday at The Huffington Post, Milbank details the history of Joseph Smith's so-called "White Horse Prophecy." Though two of Smith's followers are said to have heard him deliver the prophecy in 1843, it was not actually written down until the 1850s, when the men were elderly and Smith had passed away. In 1855, Smith's successor, Brigham Young, distilled the prophecy ...
(Oct. 4) -- Last month, a senior leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints apologized for the Mormon church's involvement in California's campaign in favor of Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that outlaws gay marriage. "On the morning of Sunday, September 19, about ninety members of the Oakland, California stake (diocese) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with Elder Marlin K. Jensen, the Church's historian and a prominent member of the General Authorities, the ranking hierarchy of Mormon leaders," reports Joanna Brooks of Religion Dispatches magazine. ...
In an interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace, popular televangelist Joel Osteen gave Mitt Romney an endorsement of sorts, addressing the doctrinal issues that many had hoped would be addressed in Romney's "Faith in America" speech. WALLACE: And what about Mitt Romney? And I've got to ask you the question, because it is a question whether it should be or not in this campaign, is a Mormon a true Christian? OSTEEN: Well, in my mind they are. Mitt Romney has said that he believes in Christ as his savior, and that's what I believe, so, you know, I'm not the one to judge the little details of it. ...
On Meet The Press this past Sunday, Tim Russert asked Mitt Romney about the Mormon Church's decision to overturn its institutional racism in 1978 by allowing blacks to fully participate in church rites. Here's the exchange: ...
"Faith in America", Mitt Romney's speech today at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library, was billed as a pivotal moment for the candidate, a chance for him to quell concerns from evangelical Christians about his Mormonism. Basically, it was a chance to pick up votes from people who believe that the Earth is 6,000 years old, by assuring them that his beliefs aren't too "out there." I saw a bigger opportunity for Mitt. Let's see how it turned out. ...
Romney is set to speak this week on his faith and why it shouldn't keep him from being president. If this seems like a tricky thing to do it's because it is. He's a Mormon, or Latter Day Saint, and many Evangelical Christians have been taught and believe that this is a cult. So Mitt Romney now has to explain his faith to a hostile audience whom he's trying to get to vote for him, all without blaming them for being bigoted rubes. Good luck, Mitt. ...
