By Lee Speigel - AOL News(Sept. 10) -- Were they UFOs or ordinary street lamps? That's the question being raised after Wednesday night's spectacular, record-breaking lightning storm over Hong Kong. Just within the first hour after midnight on Thursday, the Hong Kong Observatory recorded 13,102 lightning strikes around Hong Kong. According to Radio Television Hong Kong, or RTHK, the observatory received many calls from people claiming to see UFOs during the fierce storm near the Tai Lam Tunnel and in the Wanchai and Happy Valley districts of the city. By Lisa Flam - AOL News(Aug. 16) -- Colombian authorities are investigating reports that a Boeing 737 was hit by lightning before it crashed and broke up today, but experts say lightning strikes are rare and usually harmless to planes. "It's extremely remote that lightning would do anything more than cause a momentary fluctuation in your navigation," former Navy accident investigator Stewart Schreckengast told AOL News.
