Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Sept. 10) -- Were they UFOs or ordinary street lamps? That's the question being raised after Wednesday night's spectacular, record-breaking lightning storm over Hong Kong. Just within the first hour after midnight on Thursday, the Hong Kong Observatory recorded 13,102 lightning strikes around Hong Kong. According to Radio Television Hong Kong, or RTHK, the observatory received many calls from people claiming to see UFOs during the fierce storm near the Tai Lam Tunnel and in the Wanchai and Happy Valley districts of the city. The observatory said the UFO reports were most likely street ...
(Aug. 16) -- Colombian authorities are investigating reports that a Boeing 737 was hit by lightning before it crashed and broke up today, but experts say lightning strikes are rare and usually harmless to planes. "It's extremely remote that lightning would do anything more than cause a momentary fluctuation in your navigation," former Navy accident investigator Stewart Schreckengast told AOL News. "It would not cause any permanent damage to the aircraft." Aires Flight 8520, carrying 131 people, crashed this morning on the runway on Colombia's San Andres Island during a thunderstorm and broke ...

The Soda Butte campground, which has been temporarily closed since the incident, was also the site of a deadly bear attack in 2007. The two incidents had Surge Desk wondering about the likelihood of such an attack at Yellowstone itself. From 1980 to 2002, more than 62 million people visited Yellowstone, spending roughly 17 million camping hours in the park, according to Kerry A. Gunther of the ...
(June 25) -- If minister Rick Oliver ever decided to stop believing in God, it would be quite understandable. Because Oliver is either living proof that the man upstairs works in strange and unusual ways -- or he's just one unlucky fellow. Earlier this month, Oliver, 51, who lives on a 17-acre farm near Raleigh, N.C., was mauled by a black bear in his front yard and ended up with a gouge in his wrist so deep that blood spewed like a hose onto his farmhouse floor when he took off his bandage. The "Touchdown Jesus," a six-story tall statue (also known as "Big Butter Jesus") outside an Ohio church, was torched by a lightning bolt late Monday night and completely incinerated. In a demonstration of God's keen sense of irony, the "Hollywood Hustler" sign at a nearby porn shop was left unscathed, . Today, all that remains of the wood and styrofoam statue, formally known as "King of Kings," is the steel framework, which now resembles a bent and twisted field post. The fire spread to the Solid Rock Church's amphitheater but no one was hurt. Onlookers watched the flames on Monday night ...
