National Book Awards Snub Jonathan Franzen's 'Freedom'

(Oct. 14) -- It's one of the more glaring literary snubs in recent memory. Jonathan Franzen's "Freedom," the literary sensation of the year (a "work of total genius," says New York magazine; selected by Oprah Winfrey despite her earlier contretemps with Franzen), was not listed among the National Book Awards finalists this year.
