The latest round of severe weather Tuesday night and early Wednesday came a day after a series of powerful storms killed 10 people in Arkansas and one in Mississippi. The National Weather Service issued a high-risk warning for severe weather in a stretch extending from northeast of Memphis to just northeast of Dallas and covering a ...
The final week of April will be similar to the first three, with dangerous thunderstorms over a large portion of the U.S. The forecast includes the potential for tornadoes, life-threatening flash flooding and large hail in highly populated regions from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic region from today through Wednesday. Potential tornado-spawning thunderstorms will stretch from eastern Oklahoma and northern Texas to Pennsylvania today and tonight, encompassing the cities of St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Dallas. The greatest risk within this larger area appears to be in ...
The second major outbreak of dangerous thunderstorms and tornadoes is poised to sweep across parts of the United States in the coming days, following quickly on the heels of a storm that produced more than 1,800 severe weather reports earlier this week, including 66 tornado reports. The severe weather is expected to be most widespread on Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center, comprising the government's thunderstorm and tornado forecasting experts, has outlined a large area from the Plains to the Midwest and parts of the South as a potentially dangerous region on Sunday and Sunday night. The ...
State and federal officials are investigating the slaying of a transgender female in Arkansas who was shot and dragged several hundred feet by a vehicle earlier this week. "We are trying to determine if the individual's federal civil rights were violated," Special Agent Steve Frazier from Little Rock's FBI office told AOL News. "Part of the civil rights statutes does include hate crimes, and we will be looking at that as a possibility, but right now it is open as a federal civil rights investigation." The 25-year-old was born a man named Marcal Camero Tye but had been living as a woman for ...
Dozens of small earthquakes have rattled towns in Arkansas in the past few days, puzzling seismologists who say the exact cause of the tremors is unclear. The U.S. Geological Service has reported at least 40 earthquakes in the northern Arkansas towns of Greenbrier and Guy this week -- 18 on Wednesday alone. Since October, the area has seen nearly 700 earthquakes. No injuries or damage have been reported. The earthquakes, although small -- generally ranging from 1.8 to 3.5 in magnitude -- appear to be increasing in strength. This morning, residents in the Greenbrier, about 50 miles north of ...
A recent parody video about Ted Williams made by comedienne Vicki Lawrence is no laughing matter to advocates for the homeless. The actress recently released a video in which, while dressed as the famous "Mama" character that she originated in the late 1960s on "The Carol Burnett Show," she claims that the only way to become famous these days is to be homeless. The video clearly targets the recent rise of homeless voice-over artist Williams. "So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to take this stupid a-- sign and go out on the street, and I'm gonna wait for some bozo to drive ...
BEEBE, Ark. -- Celebratory fireworks likely sent thousands of discombobulated blackbirds into such a tizzy that they crashed into homes, cars and each other before plummeting to their deaths in central Arkansas, scientists say. Still, officials acknowledge it's unlikely they'll ever pinpoint a cause with certainty. So for the small town of Beebe, Ark., where New Year's revelers spent the holiday weekend cleaning up more than 3,000 dead red-winged blackbirds, The Mystery of Why the Birds Fell Out of the Sky remains unsolved. Some speculated Monday that a bout of bad weather was to blame. ...
It would be the Arkansas equivalent of a royal wedding. That is, if Bill and Hillary Clinton hosted Chelsea's upcoming nuptials in her home state of Arkansas rather than in New York. Chelsea, 30, plans to marry Marc Mezvinksy, 31, this summer. Hillary says the wedding is the most important matter consuming her. Bill says he is close to losing the 15 pounds that Chelsea requested of him. Wedding plans are top-secret with only a few tips leaking out. My Woman Up colleague Annie Groer recently reported that the nuptials will occur on July 31 at Astor Courts, a 1902 Beaux-Arts masterpiece ...
What a tangled legal web she may have weaved. Elena Kagan, President Obama's latest pick for the Supreme Court, once advised Bill Clinton in the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Paula Jones that played a prominent role in Clinton's eventual impeachment. In addition, Kagan also advised the former president in the Whitewater investigation. But the Clinton Presidential Library says that it will not publicly release memos that Kagan wrote to Clinton aides in those two matters because doing so would expose confidential information, the Associated Press reported. Instead, the library will only ...
