Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!(Nov. 10) -- Will it be a better fit? When Lou Dobbs abruptly resigned from CNN in November 2009, media pundits speculated that the outspoken anchor, who hosted shows on the network for more than 20 years, had his eye on the presidency. But it seems Dobbs is moving in another direction: Fox Business Network announced today that it has picked up Dobbs for a new television show scheduled to premier early next year. "Dobbs will instantly become one of the biggest names on Fox Business," the Los Angeles Times said. In addition to hosting his own show on the 3-year-old cable network, which now ...
Having resigned from CNN about a year ago, Lou Dobbs is expected to return to cable news as a host for Fox Business. This strikes me as a very good "get" for the network. What is more, if there were ever a moment (and a network) for Dobbs' brand of independent populism to catch fire, this is it. And from a personal standpoint, having been a guest on one of his final CNN shows, I'm excited to see Dobbs back on TV. While many people may differ with his brand of politics, let me say that, from a guest's perspective, Dobbs is one of the classiest hosts in the business. It has always been ...
(Oct. 7) -- Point, counterpoint. In a direct confrontation with the reporter at The Nation who wrote an article titled "Lou Dobbs, American Hypocite" that accused the talk show host of hiring illegal immigrants for years, Lou Dobbs insisted he had done no such thing. Interviewing Isabel Macdonald on his radio program on Thursday, Dobbs contended that he had not knowingly employed any illegal aliens. "Did you say that I hired or my firm hired illegal immigrants?" Dobbs asked Macdonald. "I am saying that for years, undocumented immigrants looked after your show jumping horses, and for ...
NEW YORK -- For a good many of his nearly 20 years on TV, Lou Dobbs, the stout, white-haired former CNN anchor and financial analyst, filled his evening hour with rants against illegal immigrants and those who hire them. Now, a stinging article in The Nation alleges that Dobbs, a 65-year-old millionaire, has employed illegal immigrants to tend his show horses and multimillion homes, according to a yearlong investigation by The Nation and the Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute. The 3,200-word story included interviews with five immigrants who, The Nation said, worked without papers on ...
(Oct. 7) -- Ex-CNN host Lou Dobbs, potential independent presidential candidate, made a name for himself bashing illegal immigrants and American citizens who hire them on live TV. Now comes the news that he has himself employed such workers, according to the findings of a damning yearlong investigation published in The Nation magazine. Reports Isabel MacDonald: "Dobbs has relied for years on undocumented labor for the upkeep of his multimillion-dollar estates and the horses he keeps for his 22-year-old daughter, Hillary, a champion show jumper." MacDonald tracks down several of the ...
As a native Texan who grew up around immigrants and believes they are the hope of our country, I'm appalled by this law. I understand the frustration of Arizonans, but as a nation we need to recognize the war taking place on our southern border. We can't "wish away" organized crime. America had it in the 1930s, and Mexico has it now. It's real, it's powerful, and innocent people are rightfully terrified. America likes to think of itself as a civilized and generous nation. If that's what we are, we should give Mexicans a legal way to immigrate quickly in massive numbers -- with federal help ...
CNN's "State of the Union" is getting a new host -- correspondent Candy Crowley, who will replace current anchor John King starting this Sunday. Crowley is not the first woman to anchor one of the Sunday morning political talk shows, but she will be the only one currently doing so. Crowley is known for her campaign coverage, notably the 2008 general election. She is replacing King as anchor, but it was the departure of Lou Dobbs that opened up the spot. Dobbs quit CNN in November amid tensions about his frequent on-air tirades against illegal immigration. King will be move from Sunday ...
Lou Dobbs has reportedly ruled out a run for office this year and is entertaining offers to return to television, according to sources close to the syndicated radio host and former CNN anchor. If he were to run in November he would have had to launch a campaign this month, which he has declined to do, the New York Post reported. Dobbs had said he was considering a run for Congress in New Jersey, where he lives. Some supporters even started a "Draft Lou Dobbs for President" Web site. "I would be lying if I told you I wasn't enamored . . . with the idea" of running, he told the ABC News show ...
