Young Conservatives Air 'Nerdy' Laundry on C-Span Panel

It has been described as "the most awkward C-Span panel" ever. (It probably was). Let me set it up for you . . . National Review's Jonah Goldberg is out with a new book, "Proud to be Right," which is a collection of essays from conservatives under the age of 30 (listen to my podcast with Rachel Motte, one of the young writers featured in the book). During a C-Span 2 "Book TV" panel discussion about the book, libertarian-leaning Todd Seavey and Helen Rittelmeyer, two of the conservative essayists featured in the book, aired some "nerdy" laundry. Watch this must-see "battle of the exes" ...

Friday's news that Washington Post blogger Dave Weigel had resigned amid controversy over his remarks about conservatives he covers caused sharp divisions among commentators on the right. Some describe Weigel as a talented and hard-working reporter and say the flap is overblown. Others, like Dan Gainor of The Media Research Center, saw liberal bias in Weigel's coverage: "The Post brought in someone who tried to tear down conservatives and look at the right as if he were visiting a zoo." The resignation stemmed from e-mail comments Weigel made on an off-the-record list-serv called ...

Want to be a Talking Head? Being Attractive Doesn't Hurt

Flip through the cable news networks on a given day, and you are likely to find an increasing number of very attractive female anchors and pundits discussing politics. Mind you, I have no statistics to back this up (how would one compile such stats?), but I doubt most viewers would dispute this trend. We've all heard stories of the TV producer who asks for a head-shot before booking the guest. This, of course, begs the question: Are looks becoming more important than expertise or knowledge in the news and political analysis business? On one hand, many talented writers and pundits just happen ...
