Fox News Should Step Up and Hire Michael Steele -- Everybody Will Win

Fox News Should Step Up and Hire Michael Steele -- Everybody Will Win

Somebody needs to make Michael Steele an offer he can't refuse. I nominate Roger Ailes and Fox News Channel. Fox is already the Republican home away from home, a refuge for has-beens, wannabes, and all who strive to stay relevant. They never get demerits for those "he/she said WHAT?" moments -- in fact controversy is an FNC family value. The pay is good, and there's no requirement to make it public. Simply sit back, spout off, and enjoy the fallout. Do I even need to say how perfect all of this would be for Steele? Not to mention his long-suffering party? He'd be a great commentator and an ...

Palin Backs Michael Steele Amid Gripes About His Style, Leadership

Palin Backs Michael Steele Amid Gripes About His Style, Leadership

Embattled Republican boss Michael Steele doesn't seem to have many allies within his own party, but he got an endorsement Wednesday from former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, darling of the Republican right. "I support Michael Steele. I am glad he is the leader of the party, administratively," Palin told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "If those within the party are choosing to go a different direction, his term is up in a number of months and they can vote someone else in. But I think he is doing a great job." Only a week ago, Palin asked the Republican National Committee to remove her name from an ...

More Bad News for Michael Steele: RNC Loses March Fundraising Race To DNC

More Bad News for Michael Steele: RNC Loses March Fundraising Race To DNC

Michael Steele, the embattled chairman of the Republican National Committee, had some rare good news to report Wednesday: The committee raised $11.4 million last month, "a record high for a mid-cycle March." The bad news: That's not enough to match the Democratic National Committee. "The DNC will do at least $13 million for March," DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse told Politics Daily. He said passage of the new health care reform law sparked Democratic contributions toward the end of the month. Bad news, bad press, bad reviews and outright desertions continue to dog Steele, who has been under ...

Political Extremism: Made in the GOP?

Political Extremism: Made in the GOP?

The other night I was on "Hardball"; the subject was right-wing extremism. We discussed recent conservative militia action, Rush Limbaugh referring to the Obama administration as a "regime," and Tea Partiers comparing Obama to Hitler. The point: extreme rhetoric can lead to extreme action -- and Republican leaders have been aiding and abetting the extremism. Afterward, some conservative viewers complained, noting that during the Bush-Cheney years you could find left-wing foes of the administration waving signs at rallies decrying the "fascists" in the White House and calling for "regime ...

Only Thing GOPers Have to Fear Is the GOP Itself

Only Thing GOPers Have to Fear Is the GOP Itself

If I had a gift certificate to a bondage-themed strip-tease club for every time I've heard Democrats complain that the mascot of their party ought to be a circular firing squad, I'd be able to entertain thousands of GOP operatives. But now it seems that it's the Republicans who are engaging in an orgy of cannibalism -- just when they're poised to mount one of the greatest political comebacks in years. Let your mind drift back to the historic days of November 2008. After Barack Obama won the White House and his Democratic Party achieved super-majority control of Congress, it seemed that the ...

RNC Fires Staffer Who Expensed $2,000 Tab at Sex-Themed Nightclub

RNC Fires Staffer Who Expensed $2,000 Tab at Sex-Themed Nightclub

A Republican National Committee staffer who approved an expense reimbursement of nearly $2,000 for "meals" at a Los Angeles bondage-themed club has been fired. In announcing the termination Tuesday, the RNC distanced itself from the after-hours outing to Voyeur West Hollywood by the Young Eagles, the invitation-only club for young donors to the Republican Party. "This was not an RNC-sanctioned event and was not associated in any way with any RNC official event," the committee's chief of staff, Ken McKay, wrote in a statement to Politico. The staffer "was aware that this activity was not ...

GOP Chairman Michael Steele Spends Lavishly on the Road

GOP Chairman Michael Steele Spends Lavishly on the Road

During official Republican National Committee trips, chairman Michael Steele spent tens of thousands of dollars on private air travel, limousines and hotels according to an investigation by The Daily Caller. The conservative Web site founded by pundit Tucker Carlson looked at FEC filings and also alleged that during a February RNC visit to Beverly Hills, Steele spent $1,946.25 at "Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex." The Republican National Committee disputed that Steele himself had spent money at the Hollywood nightclub. ...

RNC Says Michael Steele Was Never at L.A. Strip Club, but Others Were

RNC Says Michael Steele Was Never at L.A. Strip Club, but Others Were

Doug Heye, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, went on Fox News Monday afternoon to address the firestorm created by a Daily Caller article that detailed chairman Michael Steele's prolific spending, including nearly $2,000 at what the story called a "risque" club in Los Angeles in February. Heye emphatically denied to Fox's Megyn Kelly that Steele had ever been to the club, called Voyeur. "Michael Steele was not there. He didn't know about it. He would not have known about it," Heye said. So if Steele wasn't reimbursed by the RNC for the charges, who was? Heye said he didn't ...

RNC Head Michael Steele Defends Fiery Anti-Pelosi Ad

RNC Head Michael Steele Defends Fiery Anti-Pelosi Ad

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is defending a GOP Internet ad calling for the firing of Nancy Pelosi, saying he "tamed down" the accompanying image of the House Speaker surrounded by flames. Steele was asked Tuesday by a CBS News anchor whether the "Fire Pelosi" campaign was "a little bit extreme." "The reality of it is I don't know why you're surprised," Steele replied. "Nancy Pelosi is the architect of the demise of one-sixth of our economy. She should be fired for her failure to serve the interests of the American people." The ad sought to raise $1 million in the ...

Tea Partiers, Michael Steele Meet, Greet, Go Home

Tea Partiers, Michael Steele Meet, Greet, Go Home

Turns out the Tea Party on Capitol Hill with national Republicans wasn't such a big bash, after all. About 50 activists representing the anti-government-spending, anti-health-care-reform movement met Tuesday with Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee at RNC headquarters about a block from the Capitol. But the four-hour get-together was closed to media and the Tea Party folk were not afforded the GOP's news conference room afterward, according to the Washington Post. Instead, they talked with reporters -- outdoors, in the cold, across the street from the Capitol ...
