Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Dangerous thunderstorms will spread into large portions of the East and South today and tonight, with the threat of damaging wind, large hail and isolated tornadoes extending from western New England to the Gulf Coast. The new storms are associated with the same storm system that produced tornadoes in the Plains and Midwest over the weekend. The most widespread severe weather will occur from later this afternoon through this evening, when unseasonable warmth in advance of the storm -- part of the fuel for the thunderstorms -- will reach its peak. While the possibility of isolated tornadoes ...
The day after his wife died, Steven Tice knew he couldn't be alone in the house they had shared. So the Michigan man got in his pickup truck and headed to his daughter's house not far away. But he never made it. Tice, 64, died after crashing his pickup truck Sunday, only a day after Lana, his wife of nearly four decades, died of cancer. The couple's daughter, Kellie Ittner, said the family was devastated, but grateful death didn't part her parents for very long. "He said he couldn't go home without her there, and he never did make it home again. I feel like it was a very divine plan," she ...
LANSING, Mich. -- Gov. Rick Snyder on Monday made Michigan the first state in the country to lower the number of weeks jobless workers can get state benefits, a trend other cash-strapped states may follow as a way to avoid taxing businesses more for unemployment benefits. Snyder said he signed the bill reducing state benefits from 26 to 20 weeks because it will allow people out of a job now to get up to 20 more weeks of help from a federal program for those who used up their state and most of their regular federal unemployment benefits. The change will allow them to extend unemployment ...
WASHINGTON -- U.S. companies have added jobs for 12 straight months, giving some of the hardest hit states a lift. But the gains have been uneven and several states are still losing jobs. California and Michigan, which each suffered some of the worst losses during the recession, are adding jobs again. California last month had its single best month for job creation in more than two decades. Still, six states lost jobs from February 2010 through last month. Among the worst for job creation in that time were New Mexico and New Jersey, states that only a year ago were in the middle of the ...

Officials are anchoring the case on evidence they say ties Douglas Harrie Stewart to the crime, as well as testimony from an alleged accomplice. Venus Rose Stewart, 32, disappeared on April 26, 2010. She had been staying at her parents' home in Sturgis, Mich., about 150 miles southwest of Detroit. Michigan State Police Douglas Stewart is on trial for the murder of his wife, who has been missing since April. According to police, Venus Stewart went ...

Steven Demink, 41, of Redford Township, Mich., appeared in federal court in Detroit to enter his plea on six charges related to the sexual exploitation of children.
