Police: Woman Tried to Send Live Puppy Through the Mail

Postal workers in Minneapolis got quite a surprise when a package suddenly moved on its own. Suspicious, they opened it up -- and found a live puppy inside. Authorities say that Stacey Champion, 39, tried to mail the 4-month-old dog from Minneapolis, to Atlanta, in a package with no food, water or air holes, The Star Tribune reported. If postal workers hadn't found the animal, it would have died, officials say. Baby Born on 1/11/11 at 1:11 a.m.

Now here's a first. Minnesota parents Amy Zeller and Codjo Mensah knew they were going to welcome one special baby into the world when they went to a St. Paul hospital Monday night -- but they no idea their daughter Flora would be born at 1:11 a.m. on 1/11/11. Zeller told MyFoxTwinCities.com that numerology wasn't the first thing on her mind when she checked into United Hospital, even though her niece had been urging her to "hold her until midnight." But when the clock struck 1 a.m., Zeller said, doctors and nurses in the delivery room started focusing on that one magic ...

Court Rules Against Banks in Pivotal Mortgage Case

The highest court in Massachusetts ruled against U.S. Bancorp and Wells Fargo & Co. Friday in a pivotal mortgage foreclosure case that could spark more turmoil and uncertainty in a housing market already mired in depression. The Supreme Judicial Court affirmed a lower court judge's ruling invalidating two mortgage foreclosure sales because the banks, in their capacity as trustees for mortgage securities, did not prove that they actually owned the mortgages at the time of foreclosure. The decision, which highlights the failure of financial firms to adhere to the rules that govern ...

Nasty Weather to Ring in the New Year

While the weather will be dry and tranquil when the ball drops in Times Square at midnight, parts of the nation will have nasty -- if not downright dangerous -- weather to ring in 2011. The combination of strong winds, snow and blowing snow will result in blizzard conditions in northern and western Minnesota, eastern North Dakota and much of South Dakota this evening through Saturday morning. Snowfall totals from this second of back-to-back storms will approach a foot in some locations, and the combination of snow and blowing snow will reduce visibility to near zero at times. Wind chill ...
