I'll take "things that are absurd" for a thousand, Alex. After a run of challenged ballot decisions this morning, Al Franken leads Norm Coleman for the first time this election. Of course the numbers are temporary. The remaining challenges must be dealt with, and the thousands that were withdrawn will be added back into the recount totals. Until then there can be no real estimation of where the numbers stand. There are absentee ballots still being counted and there are court cases to come. The Minnesota recount has turned in Franken's favor once again, as the challenged ballot review has brought the estimated Coleman lead to within two votes. Also this week, the State Supreme Court ruled against the Coleman campaign, allowing previously rejected absentee ballots to be reviewed again, and counted if the reviewer determines they were erroneously rejected the first time. Caleb Howe has been all over the Minnesota recount, but I thought I would spare him the devastation of reporting that Al Franken has taken the lead! Wow. Who knew all it took to "take' the lead was to claim it? I hereby declare I am in the lead. From TPM: Franken's lead recount lawyer Marc Elias said that under the campaign's methodology -- which is not unreasonable, but has some necessary caveats -- they believe Franken is ahead by 10 votes as the first stage of the recount winds down.
