Most presidential campaigns are funded piecemeal by donations. A few dollars from an individual supporter, a couple hundred bucks from a corporation. Then there are the tiny handful of candidates like Steve Forbes and Ross Perot (and possibly Mike Bloomberg?) who are able to just write one whopping check and be done with it.
