But with the emergence of hand-held devices such as Amazon's Kindle, Barnes & Noble's Nook and the Sony Reader, that sad story may be heading for a happier, more literate ending. According to recent findings released by the National Endowment for the Arts, nearly 46 percent of all Americans over the age of 18 do not read a single book in a year that isn't required by work or school.
