Bakery owner Manfred Klaschka says he made the cake -- at a cost of $128 -- at the request of a customer. "If it's requested, it's made," said Klaschka, according to MSNBC. "I don't want to be pulled into this because I'm a confectioner, and there's nothing more to it." Alamy A Nazi party suit pin depicting a black swastika on a red flag. An Austrian baker has ...
If the powers that be had realized the global implications of the Internet when it was invented, they probably would have found some way to kill it. Take a look at these early pages and the very first World Wide Web site. Then take a look at this CNN footage of the intrepid Ben Wedeman in Benghazi. In just two decades, the earth has shifted. I suspect the 1989 slaughter of unarmed protesters in Tiananmen Square could not happen today, or at least not without severe international repercussions. Same with Rwanda. One wonders how much sooner Hitler and Stalin might have been stopped if the ...
John Demjanjuk, the former Soviet soldier on trial in Germany for his alleged actions as a Nazi concentration camp guard, is threatening to go on a hunger strike if the court doesn't agree to review documents he says could exonerate him. Demjanjuk, 90, entered court today holding a sign with the number "1627" written on it, a reference to a KGB file he says has thousands of pages proving his innocence. So far the court has refused to allow the documents, according to Bloomberg. Lukas Barth, AFP / Getty Images John Demjanjuk, who is accused of serving as a guard at a Nazi death ...
Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen, who lit up the Internet by comparing Republican criticism of the new health care law to Nazi propaganda, now says his comments on the floor of the U.S. House were "taken out of context." Cohen said Thursday he never called Republicans Nazis and was only pointing out that the Republican characterization of the health law as a "government takeover" of the system was named the "2010 Lie of the Year" by Politfact.com, a fact-checking, Pulitzer Prize-winning website at the St. Petersburg Times. With only a few lawmakers on the floor Tuesday night, Cohen said the ...
The new civility suffered a setback on Capitol Hill Tuesday night when Rep. Steven Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat, accused House Republicans of using the Nazi's "big lie" strategy to try to discredit the health care law. "They say it's a big government takeover of health care, a big lie, just like Goebbels," Cohen said in remarks reported by ABC News and The Tennessean. "You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually people believe it." (Joseph Goebbels, a top aide to Hitler, was the Nazis notorious propaganda chief.) Cohen, who is in his third ...
BERLIN -- Germany's Nazi government was so angry about a dog trained to imitate Hitler that it started an obsessive campaign against its Finnish owner, according to newly discovered documents. In the middle of World War II, the Foreign Office in Berlin commanded its diplomats in the Nazi-friendly Nordic country to gather evidence on the dog, and even came up with plans to destroy the pharmaceutical wholesale company of the dog's owner. Tamro Group Image Bank / AP Tor Borg, whose dog Jackie was trained to raise its paw for the Nazi salute, was investigated by the Nazis, who were ...

A mass grave believed to hold the remains of 220 victims of Nazi euthanasia has been uncovered outside a psychiatric hospital in western Austria. The grisly discovery was made by construction workers digging the foundation for an extension to the Hall Hospital, in Tyrol province. Work has been halted while investigators study the remains. Matthias Schrader, AP The old hospital cemetery is pictured in Hall near Innsbruck, western Austria, on Tuesday. Officials say the cemetery could contain the remains of up to 220 people killed by the Nazis and buried between 1942 and 1945. DNA ...
(Nov. 19) -- Did I say Nazi? I meant nasty, inflexible bigot. Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes may have apologized for calling NPR executives a bunch of "Nazis" during an interview with the Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz, but he certainly isn't backing down. In a letter to the Anti-Defamation League, Ailes said that he "was of course ad-libbing and should not have chosen that word," adding that he "was angry at the time because of NPR's willingness to censor Juan Williams for not being liberal enough." Ailes also qualified the Nazi statement, saying that in his "now considered opinion, ...
(Oct. 13) -- Halloween is supposed to be a time when people pretend to be something they aren't, but singles looking for love at parties may be revealing more than they want prospective partners to know. That's because revealing outfits are hot this year, with Lady Gaga-like lingerie and "Jersey Shore"-inspired tight tank tops topping the list with costume retailers. BuyCostumes.com Retailers say Lady Gaga costumes are big this year, but dating experts say consumers should be aware of the signals wearing sexy costumes sends to others. Halloween has long provided an excuse for partygoers to ...
